Don't just throw away that hard drive, or get rid of your computer without knowing this!

I was in the market for an All-in-One disk utiities that is easy to use.  I tried out Active@ KillDiskSuite on CD.  You can find more information from: http://www.killdisk.com  They have a Free suite which works VERY well!!  You just create a bootable CD, boot up to it, and it has an easy-to-use interface.  You have multiple options to choose from:

Active@ KILLDISK
Active@ UNERASER
Active@ Disk Image
Active@ Password Changer
Active@ Partition Recovery
Active@ NTFS Reader

You have all of these 'Tools' on one bootable CD.  There is also a Windows version of KillDisk.

The Free version of KillDisk running under Windows looks different than the paid version.  The free version is only capable of "One Pass Zeros" method only.  Granted, it's not up to Government spec, but the free version will still wipe your hard drive clean.

There are a LOT of people who take this for granted.  They just toss their computers/equipment in the trash, or have it donated before they wip e their hard drives clean.

Please check out: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Data_remanence

The reason why I use this is I just sold my old laptop.  I reformatted it with Windows, but that's not enough.  I wiped the drive clean with the One Pass Zeros.  Then, I installed Windows.

Granted, I didn't have any top secret documents on there, but any file I had on there before could be recovered!!

Re:

Even Credit Card information stored in the browser's memory could potentially be recovered! Of course, the free gparted can do the job, and for Mac's the install disk works great. (You can have it 35-pass zeroes.)
