Re: Past, Present and Future of Home Robotics

Hello Vic! Glad to still see you here! Thank you for the warm welcome. As I have mentioned on the previous post, there have been some good progress in the home robotics but specifically within the floor cleaners. Saying that the industrial materials (i.e. plastics) used today are still very similar ...

Past, Present and Future of Home Robotics

Hello fellow home robot enthusiasts! It has been many years since I last posted in this forum. It is interesting to see how many owners, enthusiasts and tinkerers/hackers visit this forum. I have seen the early stages of home robotics and it has come a long way since 2002/2003. Many improvements and...

Yes, if you continue to do it each and every cleaning session. No, if you do it only once in a "blue moon" (approximately once every 20~30 complete charges).

Re: Neato XV-11 Robot Looks Fit To Dance With The Roomba

Some owners do not want to spend $50 to $80 for a new battery on a $400 Roomba after one year. A faulty battery after one year? That has to be the exception instead of the rule. It is a known fact that these batteries have an average life expectancy of about 2 years (with recommended maintenance) s...

Re: Neato XV-11 Robot Looks Fit To Dance With The Roomba

Since Roomba breaks within a year and iRobot does not repair them, I would say most of them ended up at the landfill. This is how iRobot can sell so many. Hello TechGuy, Where are you buying your robots from? I know that iRobot domestic robots need improvement with their engineering materials but w...

Re: Neato XV-11 Robot Looks Fit To Dance With The Roomba

I personally like the "retro" look because it reminds me of the Sci-Fi movie "Blade Runner". What I really like about Neato XV-11 from the get-go is the fact of using SLAM technology to map out cleaning areas. The non-round design was an interesting choice by Neato but from the C...

Hello Mazdated,

Yes, you can do this on 4000 and 500 series Roomba air filters. Here is a "How To":

Re: Hair Dump on Carpet/Wood Transition

Hello roombaNewBe,

Most likely it was solved by the introduction of the new dirtbin/vac design as found in the Roomba 550:

Enjoy!

Re: iRobot Roomba 550 with Aero-vac

No, it's not about transmitter power. Basically, the more rooms you have, the less efficient Roomba becomes without Lighthouses. Actually, i think that even two rooms connected via doorway is a stretch for non-LH guided Roomba. So, it's pretty pointless to run Roomba in a large house without Lighth...

Re: iRobot Roomba 550 with Aero-vac

1) NiCd is cheaper 2) It has longer life than NiMh. A LOT of customers complains that their battery dies pretty fast, often within warranty timeframe. So providing NiCd batteries allows iRobot to save on replacement batteries 3) Without Lighthouses, there is no real reason for a robot to require bi...

iRobot Roomba 550 with Aero-vac

Seems that the Aerovac resolved the problem I have reported to iRobot when the first 500 series Roomba came out. Here is the original post from November 19, 2007: Roomba 560 Clogged Dust Intake Problem This is a nice evolutionary step forwards for iRobot's Roomba series. I have also noticed that the...

This is a very interesting Robot from Korea! Thank you for sharing this find with us. In the last 3 years Korea is pushing very hard to surpass the Japanese in the robotics field and so far they seem to have done so! About this robot, the bottom seems very similar to Microrobot's UBot. Take a look a...
