Re: nth scooba battery question ...

Hello Luciano You are correct, both for the reason you mention and a major additional reason. Rechargeable battery life is greatly affected by the average depth of discharge for each usage. Therefore a higher mah battery should live longer, on the average, due to the fact that each cycle, whatever i...

New NiMH batteries can require 4-6+ cycles to reach their full potential. Try running/recharging muliple times, until there is no further gain, then if it still doesn't give decent run times contact iRobot for a replacement.

Your battery is bad. A full battery under a 20W load should be ~16.5V and take ~45+ min to get to 13.8V.

No load voltage readings on a battery are meaningless. Try to find a 12v, ~20w load, attach it, then measure battery voltage. 12v automotive or decorative lighting bulbs work well.

Do you use a reconditioning cycle your NiMHs every month or 2? This will extend battery life.

No problem. Either charger will be fine.

Just curiosity. Does the NiCd APS list a mAh rating?

A Roomba that runs for 40 min and then suddenly changes from green to red has a battery going bad. If you had a charging problem you wouldn't get the 40 min.

Leave it plugged in and charging. The extra trickle charge time helps rebalance the battery's cells.

They obviuosly don't actually want to sell these. I've tried 2 different credit cards, Google Checkout, and all they do is come back and tell there is a problem, without any idea what the problem is. I'll bet this is one of those come-ons, where they want to raise interst, but really don't want have...

Check out the Buy/Sell/Trade section. www.colinsfoto.com has an ad for UK customers looking for power supplies.

I have no personal knowledge about him, but it would be a good place to look into.

Hopefully you used PayPal. File a Significantly Different Than Advertised Claim. PayPal is very good about protecting buyers. I've used it several times anf gotten refunds every time. It takes a little online paperwork, but it is worth it to hammer an unethical (fraudulent) seller.

Remember that the moisture the Scooba leaves behind has cleaner in it that leaves a residue. I've been much happier with my floors since I started making a 2nd run with clean water only. It seems to take that residue off.

If you have only run it once, don't be surprised if the battery is weak. It is normal for a new NiMH battery to need 4 or 5 runs to reach full capacity. Try at least 5 run/recharge cycles, then let us know what happens.

Definetely call for warranty. If iRobot follows their normal pattern, they will not send you a wheel. I'm not aware of any occasion that iRobot has sent out any parts that require you to open up the robot. They will just send you a new robot and switch the remainder of your warranty to the new bot. ...

No load battery tests do not really tell you anything about battery condition. Connect a 12VDC, ~20W bulb to the battery, then check each cell.

I just wish somebody would enlighten iRobot to that fact as they obviously don't know that (or appear not to know). Their Reg. form (iRobot's) still lists ebay as a Seller! iRobot knows the difference, but they also know that many robots sold on E-Bay are well used, but have never been registered. ...

Hello redmaid redmaid said I've "heard" that it's less troublesome if people who are purchasing on ebay don't mention "ebay" when registering their Robots. Instead, they apparently can simply state on the Reg. form, "Online Merchant". Don't know if it's true or not. It'...
