I'll be happy to post some data. Mine is a 770. Bought last Christmas. Don't know where to find a date code: let me know and I will post.
So why do you think the right hand charging terminal on the unit sinks in as shown on my pics? Does this gap produced by the sinking inward create a hazard when charging? The gap would produce a higher heat area when charging due to the gap I would believe. Have you seen this "sinking" on other units? Don't you believe that the manufacture is responsible for this kind of defect?

Remove the bin. Turn the bot over. See white service tag with black writing. KYN880021409250203333.

I think the problem is rare. It has been reported in US that iRobot has replaced units 4 years old with melted contacts. You should contact iRobot. You should get a replacement.
Yes, I think there is/was a manufacturing problem. I am sure their QC is working on it.
I have noticed that on carpeted floors with tack strips, the base tends to lean forward slightly causing a 2014 770 to not dock on occasion.
The integrated home base will be warmer than the separated base and charger.

I'll piggyback in this thread in order not to bring up an ancient one... I don't have melting contacts issue on my 880 (and did no care procedures apart from thoroughly wiping them with dry microfibre cloth).

While cleaning the 880 today, I accidentally pressed and held the SPOT button for 5+ seconds, while roomba was on.
The display showed up something like PET or PER or similar, anyone knows what it is? I freaked out for a bit  so turned it off immediately.

fufu wrote:Just wanted to inform you that it wasn't an old software version. It's a configuration issue. If you press the spot key over 5 seconds the word 'ArC' appears on the display. This means the robot moves in circles if it detects much dirt (dirt detection 1). If the word 'PEr' shows up, the robot moves forward and backward (dirt detection 2).

A guy in the German roomba forum posted this information. Would have been good if iRobot had mentioned this in the manual... So I sent my first roomba back for nothing...

Perfect - thanks! I knew you'd know where to find it. It seems I am able to toggle between modes, same as in version 700 (found http://www.robotreviews.com/chat/viewtopic.php?f=1&t=15241 in the meantime)

For the first time that I'm aware, I now have one with melting... Ummm... "plastic deformation" on BOTH tabs.

> It's an 880.
> The melting is significant (major deformation) on the usual left hand tab, and very minor (didn't even notice it at first) on the right hand side.

Late to the party, I now have the exact same problem. My Roomba is a three-year old 880. Only the left tab is affected. I am in the US. Google led me to this thread. I am about to contact iRobot.

I'm in the same boat as everyone else here. I heard the clicking and did some investigating. I've got the melted contact as well. I'm going to see what iRobot can do on Monday when they open. It's no longer under warranty so worst case scenario is I'm on my own.

I have discovered that what I thought was a dead Roomba is this exact issue. Customer care was closed, so I emailed my pictures and contacted them. I was concerned the warranty was up but saw a previous poster indicate they were replacing units as old as 4 years old. Mine is just a year possibly 2 years old. So hopefully that will be solved. I just hope they solve whatever is causing this so that no house fires occur.
