{CLOSED} July Contest: Win a $100 Amazon Gift Certificate!

Postby robotreviews on July 1st, 2010, 4:35 am

Well, it's that time of year again. The time for our latest round of contests to begin!*

What makes this years contest's different is that we will be creating new contests that utilize new sections and features that we are adding to the site. This month's contest will be in the Review section, and it will use our new video upload feature.

This month's contest is simple: Create a video review for any robot that you own. It can be a Roomba, a Scooba, a spiffy new Neato XV-11, a robot that you have built yourself, you name it, we want to see it.

To enter: Simply create a video review, and upload it to our review section using the following form:

http://www.robotreviews.com/node/add/robot-review

You can also include pictures and text if you like, but the entry must include at least one video in order to be eligible to win the contest. All video's entered will automatically be added to our new youtube page:

http://www.youtube.com/robotreviews

The video should also include your username and a statement that it is an entry in the July 2010 contest at robotreviews.com

All entries must be submitted by midnight ET on 7/31/2010 to be eligible, voting will be allowed on youtube, but the final decision will be determined by myself and the fine moderators at robotreviews.com

The winner will be awarded a $100 Amazon.com gift certificate.

If you have any questions about your entry, or comments - please feel free to post them here, and good luck to all!

*The more astute observers out there may have noticed that our contests always seem to start at different times of the year, and as such 'that time of year again' is an arbitrary and meaningless reference that doesn't really make much sense - but we don't get out much around here, and as far as we're concerned the year doesn't start for us until the contests begin - so it makes perfect sense to us! :D

And in case your still reading this, we don't want to waste this perfectly good fine print on useless babble, so we would also like to add that by entering and uploading a video you are agree not to upload any copyrighted material that you are not authorized to use, and that you also agree to allow robotreviews.com to use and redistribute your entry as we see fit. We aren't sure how we will use it, but we are pretty sure we are going to use your video in a major motion picture, and we don't want you to sue us when you see the commercial on TV, ok?

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

The winner of the $100 Amazon gift certificate is blades1000! He submitted four detailed review videos from unboxing, to performance to maintenance. Great work blades1000!

logdog submitted 2 great entries as well, and for that we have decided to award him a $50 Amazon.com gift certificate for second place!

Notice the smiley, logan was not serious about using the Ipad.

And indeed, an app was developed for the Iphone/Itouch that controls the roomba but requires a Bluetooth equipped mac.

Oh yes, I forgot about that app! I used it from my iPod Touch. Basically the iPod touch/iPhone/iPad is just acting as a Bluetooth controller, except it uses WiFi. I think it would be cool to see an iPad actually controlling a Roomba. Without any help.
Cheers! :)

Yes, you can enter as many times as you like with the same or different robots.

And if you feel that the ipad can be used in a way that works with robots, controls a robot or becomes a robot, then go for it! :)

I don't know if this would count as a robotic review. I will let Craig know so he can give you a definitive answer on that. The diagnostic mode is only to help pin-point any issue(s). How would you go about reviewing the BiT's??

We all get that way logdog. No worries. Anyways, you can upload more than 1 review. Maybe Craig will allow you to review that. He just has the final word. ;)

@LogDog When you start getting into professional video editing, that's slightly on the high side.
Cheers! :)

Yeah, that is media composer. I was kidding when I mentioned using it for the contest. We sell a lot of Media Composer seats to Hollywood Studios and television news.

Avid does have a consumer grade product called studio that is only $50. I have a copy of a previous version they gave us for free. One of these days I will have to get a camcorder so I can use it.
