Roomba 790 - light house (LH) issues

Postby tirzaman » November 9th, 2012, 3:40 pm

My 790 has issues passing my LHs. I watched it this morning failing to pass the two LHs that I have deployed. Other times, however, it worked fine and the 790 was able to cross the LHs and venture into the other rooms. I checked over and over again the switch position and it's in the LH mode (not VW). It appears to be a hit-and-miss situation where, sometimes it works and sometimes it doesn't. Does anyone run into anything similar? Any ideas?

Try a system reset on your Roomba by removing then installing the battery.

Tirzaman, any luck with applying the system reset? I am experiencing similar problems with 790 since I deployed the third LH, but I'm still "investigating" and want to keep the system reset as a last resort measure...

[Edit]
I thought I'll upload my floor plan so that maybe someone will offer some advice re. my problem. Everything was working fine, when there were only 2 LHs (A + B) and bathroom doors (4) were shut (so bathroom wasn't cleaned at all). With that config roomba cleaned 1, then 2 and 3, finally docking. Then I decided that I will test cleaning all of the rooms in one session and added 3rd LH C in the way pictured above. I had to half-open doors to bathroom (4) (as pictured) because with full-opened doors there was too little space for roomba to access lighthouse A and room 3. With doors half-open the space was just enough, at least I think so. But what happened - roomba started cleaning room 1 (encountering all 3 lighthouses and not crossing them), then went to room 2, then went back to clean some i room 1 again, ignored rooms 3 and 4 and docked. I tried twice with the same results.
Could it be because there's too much obstacles around LH A and C? Or something got messed up with roomba's mind after adding 3rd LH? Do you see any other configurations of LHs that would allow me to clean all without manual interventions?

Thx in advance for help.

Try to remove the door to the room "4".

I believe he's saying to physically remove the door to the bathroom =P

Try a relocation of your 790 similar to the image below.

Thanks for the tips - actually physically removing door from room 4 isn't that bad idea (temporarily of course!) - that would answer the question whether the door is causing problems (possibly blocking the tractor beams or restricting the space required for guidance) or not. So I will definitely try both solutions.
Do you know what's the approximate angle between the LH's tractor beams (is it 90 or more, like 120 degrees)?
Vic, why (how) relocating 790 like that would help?

More of area ( 1 ) would be cleaned prior to the 25 minute timer being activated that then signals the LHs to turn off their virtual walls and allowing the Roomba to traverse into the other areas.

Btw, who dry-vacuums bathroom and other "damp-risky" areas (kitchen, laundry room, etc.)? Scooba is supported for those tasks.

I clean those areas with a roomba all the time. The laundry and kitchen are never an issue. The bathrooms could be an issue if someone took a shower minutes before but has never been a problem.

Suprisingly moving the base to the opposite side of the room did the trick. All 3 LHs are detected normally every time. The added value is that it cleans some more when going back to the home base. I have never had a problem with water poodles in my bathroom (maybe that's because I have an enclosed shower cube bath). So, no risk that my roomba will drown or electrocute itself :-)

Thanks for your tips!
