Need a robot for uneven floor - Saltillo tiles

Postby argestech » January 26th, 2013, 1:31 pm

Hi .

So my wife started to complain about sweeping the floor everyday for my 9 months old .
I have an uneven floor with mexican tiles (Saltillo , similar to this one : http://aldonchem.com/mt-mexican-tile-kitchen.jpg )

I would like to buy a robot that will clean the floor from dust and etc..
Doing the carpet is a plus but not the main goal with what i am looking for .
My house is not a big one ( approx 1880 sqft ) and will need to robot to clean half of it .
We do have two small breed dogs but not massive dog hair around the house.

I was reading about the Roomba 595-$299/630-$350/650-$400/770-$600
I do not understand what is the 595 model i see in Costco .. is it the same as 630?
I also looked into the samsung robot and neato..

Anyway i am open to suggestions to spend the least amount of money and get the best bang for your buck .
If it means buying something and mod it thats cool with me ... Just need my wife to stop complaining with minimal cost :D

Please help !

You might consider one of the 400 models. They will be effective in cleaning tiles you have. Possibly mod the 400 with a set of Dirt Dog brushes.

I cannot find any 400 model in a decent price ...

The cheapest i found was the 595 model for 299$ at Costco .

What is so special with the Dirt Dog brushes ?
Are those better then the "special" brushes they got on the 700 series ?

Check out this one on ebay: http://www.ebay.com/itm/iRobot-Roomba-4 ... 19d8608213

The Dirt Dog has two rotating bristle brushes, one large and a smaller one that replaces the rubber brush in other models. It will be more effective in cleaning the floor you previously described.

There's nothing special about the 700 model brushes, they are designed to fit into the 700 model CHM.

You won't be able to install Dirt Dog brushes into a 500 model Roomba. You'll have to use brushes built for the 500, 600, 700 models.

That's a good model, I've got a 730 and a 780 and they clean quite well.

I would say this is important info for some people that isn't easy to find. So please keep us posted with how it goes!

I've witnessed some bots "walk" or skid around the floor because their clearance is just too low. And it's just a mess, bad for the floor, bad for the cleaning, and bad for the robot....all for hundreds of dollars.

Roomba is excellent in this area, so I think you made the right choice.
