Might late in the game to worry about a 530.
There is an OSMO on ebay with the number: 2012-08-22-1754
Will this work for the 530 and 531?
I called irobot and was told that there weren't any OSMOs for the 530s.

The OSMO for the early 500 model Roomba is 2010-06-08-1628L and is encased inside a White case.

The firmware change added additional error announcements as well as RCON changes to allow the newer "Always on" pulsed IR Virtual Walls to work with the 500 models.

The black osmosis for the 700/800.
Ask the seller if they have used it on a 500 series.
2012-03-1549 as shown on the 1st page of this thread is the latest known R3 osmo.

Anyone know about this OSMO

Postby c_mart » June 10th, 2018, 11:41 pm

I received this OSMO in a lot that I bought to get a 2012-03-22-1549 500 series OSMO. Shows 500/700 series, 7-2011-11-29-1753. It's not a date for the 500 as it's somewhere between version 07 and 08. Can an OSMO have multiple firmware for different Roombas on it (since it states 500/700)? I have a 500 that I haven't updated yet that I'd be willing to try it in if I can confirm that plugging in an incorrect OSMO won't harm my Roomba.

Also took the two apart to compare and the black 500/700 does have a different board than the older white 500. A lot of the components are labeled the same with a few changes, kind of like how the 700/800 Roomba main boards were changed up from the 500/600.

A friend brought a 580 rev. 01 to me to check out which gave CE1 with new aftermarket battery.
The only battery I had, not in a bot, to check it was a late 2016 IRobot Lithium 2130mAH.
No more CE1. Bot charged battery but would not terminate full charge, CE5.
After updating firmware to rev.8, full charge terminates and bot goes into State 7, trickle charge, Green CLEAN.
Not sure at this point which rev. will be compatible with the OEM lithium, higher than rev.1 for sure.

For the aftermarket battery, exacto knife around thermistor contacts to allow bot contacts to make contact.
Labeled 3500, actual about 2300. More C junk.

Thanks for the info! I have a 770 I just bought used, and have been surprised to find that the lights always stay on while charging. Looks like there's a fix!

I don't have an OSMO, however, I'm wondering if it'd be possible to emulate an OSMO using a BusPirate device, which I have. Any thoughts?

Head over to this thread and read about an attempt to hack an OSMO: viewtopic.php?f=4&t=2916
