Software / Firmware Update Scooba 450 available

Postby mastercb » December 7th, 2014, 12:55 pm

There is an official firmware update available for the Scooba 450.

Most devices were shipped with firmware 1.2.3. Now you can update to 1.2.6 for free.

Just download the updater-sw from irobot, and connect your scooba with a standard Micro-USB cable to your computer (The micro-USB jack is located behind a rubber cover under the handle).

Improvements are:
- Better pump performance
- Better drying performance in dry dock
- No more implausible errors 1-8 and 1-9

mastercb, thanks for the heads up. Just went to the URL you provided, downloaded the COM driver for the Scooba 450 and downloaded the firmware patch. Here's a before and after dump of the pre and post flash.

I recently did the software update on the scooba 450. I notice that he stops putting water on the floor after half a job, is this something new in the software update or is my robot become faulty after the update?

Best regards

I have the firmware upgrade flash to version 1.2.6 and the 450 Scooba completes a cleaning run with an empty clean tank when the Large Room option is selected.

Can anybody provide me with the working drivers for the Scooba 450 on Windows 7 x64?
There don't seem to be any provided with the update utility so my Scooba isn't being recognized by Windows.

I tried iRobot support but they don't seem to understand the problem.
Thanks in advance.

The setup file doesn't contain the scooba driver files, or do they?
After installation and connecting the Scooba Windows tells me it can't find the drivers.

Possibly you selected the wrong version for your computer platform ?

Nope Windows 7 x64.
Real strange as this happens on two different installations Windows 7 x64 and on two different computers.

But it updated fine on my Macbook. But for convenience I want to use my Windows PC's as they are in my living room.

I can't check that for you since I'm using Win7 x32 that did work for me for the firmware flash. I use another device to just monitor the USB port on the 450 Scooba called the "Air Console". It's a wireless unit that's battery powered and has built in drivers.

I use Win8.1x64 and it worked without a problem. Win7x64 should do so, too.

Perhaps, You had the scooba already connected, when installing the software. This sometimes prevents the drivers from being installed correctly.

Please try to disconnect scooba,
uninstall the irobot software,
then remove the "ghost devices" ("unknown device" etc.) from device manager (Set win environment variable "Show_nonpresent_devices = 1" before starting device manager. Then select "View / Show hidden devices).

Then reboot and try re-install iRobot software w/o scooba connected

I have tried all that already nothing wants to work.
The Scooba was never connected to the PC before installation of the software.

Don't want to waste anymore time on this.
I'll just use my MacBook for future updates.
Thanks for your help!!

I'm also using the Win8.1x64, but it does not work, the computer cannot find the driver for the scooba and it is shown as "unknown device" in the device manager.
Luckily I also have a really old x86 computer running win8.1  , and the 32bit software works fine on that machine. So it seems the 64bit version of the software is buggy.
I've also tried to copy the x86 driver file to the x64 machine, but windows says it has no digital signature and cannot be installed.
So seems if you want to upgrade, you can only use a mac or a x86 windows for now.

Hi Vic7767 - Is this good or bad? I think why would anyone like Scooba to run 45 minutes without water in the tank?
Sincerely,

No one would run their Scooba with an empty tank. What I posted was the fact that the Clean tank became empty when a Large room was selected and the Scooba had finished a full cleaning session.

some changes were made in 'escape' behaviour (like from between narrow spaces e.g. chair legs) to speed it up and let clean those skipped open spaces
