Roomba 980 and IR remote

Postby misiakufal » September 1st, 2016, 5:34 pm

Hi All,

Accidentally I've discorvered, that despite Roomba 980 does not have IR remote unit included in the set, it does have IR receiver under the hood. Because I don't have an actual IR remote unit, (probably from 700/800 series) I've tested it with RCoid Android app (they have Roomba remote unit definition file on their website) on note4.
It allows you to Clean, SpotCean, ReturnToBase and manual direction control.

Best regards

Thanks for the info. :o It's nice to know they included that even though it's not noted anywhere that it's compatible with the remote. I guess the thought is that with the app, remote is not needed. But at that price, maybe they should've tossed in the remote!

Sorry to resurrect such an old thread, but does anyone have any idea how direction control via an IR remote affects a 9xx's navigation? For instance, if I sent the robot to a particular area from its base using the remote, could it find its way back?

When using a remote control to guide the 9XX Roomba, the imag ing program is inactive and no maps are being generated. Locating the home base will become a 50/50 attempt and if the home base signature is detected while seeking to dock then it will.

Darn... back to the drawing board. I wish they'd open up an API for the 9xx series!

Could you tell me what the dock seeking behavior is like in the 960/980? I'd imagine it's a bit more methodical when trying to find its home than previous models.

Without a map being generated, the 9XX models will behave just like their predecessors.
