Roomba Series 700/800 will not turn on

Postby przemo33 » October 26th, 2016, 2:48 am

Hello,
I have some damaged motherboards series 700/800 which in general do not respond to the "CLEAN"
(no apparent signs by water damage)

I have a question, what I can check in the first place in this case.

from notes
Check 5V on PCA at the connection of L1 and C287.
Maybe TechGuy can find the datasheet for U17 & U18. I deleted it from iBooks and thought I had it in here but can't find it. GCCM3

Hello,
Which element is responsible for the production of 5V?

From notes: SMPS very similar to R3. This post has a grouping of drawings I use for ease of troubleshooting/repair. You should look at R3 charging and SMPS5V EDIT new SMPS dwg on page 2

Hello,

So Q7 directly controls SMPS?

It is more precisely said that Q7 is the final controlled device in the switched mode power supply.
It is turned on by Q15 and off by Q14...R3, needs to be verified for 700/800 series.
Q15 is turned on by U3 pin 2 switched emitter.
U2 switched emitter is turned on by its internal comparator AND oscillator thru a SR latch.
The internal comparator is turned on from positive feedback of the filtered dc, D55, L1, C287 when the value of the feedback is less than 1.25V at pin 5 of U3. The divider network, R175, R176 sets up the final output V requested.
Again, Must be verified for the 700/800.

Troubleshooting: I like to look at the final resultant first when either troubleshooting or designing.
1. 5V @ L1>C287 ? 5V @ Q7_d ? no 2. yes L1
2. Near Vbat @ Q7_s, R158, R278, U3_8 & 6, D47, R138 ? no go to charging system, yes 3.
3. Q7 gate low? yes replace Q7 and D55 check C287. no>
4. Q15 base high?
5. U3_2 high?
and so on.
Verify same as R3!

D55 schottky diode. May have failed shorted which would have taken out Q7 and possibly D47 and any other device back to the battery.

Hello,
I checked a few things:
- On the Q7 is a high state
- replaced the elements from another roomba D55, L1, C287

And then is not 5V is 1,96V

Where else?

Approach rarely works except for home defense.
Q source voltage reading?
On the Q7 is a high
on the gate? What is the high reading?

Do you have a working or partially working board identical to the one you are troubleshooting? You can do an A B comparison that may lead you to the bad component.

 Just returned from the most unexpected, delightful, celebration!
I have an 800 and 700 that need repairs and will look at the SMPS along with the left wheel H-bridge for Tesgane. Sunday probably, look for updates Monday.

Hello,
I checked a few things:
- At the Q7 without L1 voltage G 14,48V; 14,68V S, D 1,15V
- At the Q7 L1 voltage G 14,54V; 14,68V S, D 15,00V

Also I replaced the L1 and the other is the same :(.
