HELP!! Newbie!

Postby heatherb73 » February 1st, 2017, 12:37 am

Hi there!
I have wanted a roomba for years but could never afford one. An elderly gentleman sold me one that he had gotten for a housewarming present and had never used. It was still in the plastic and pristine. After charging the battery for 24 hours, I went to run it and it would move only about 3 inches before stopping and turning red. Although it had never been used, the battery was no good anymore. I bought a new one. Charged it up and it moved about a foot, then started going in a circle, stops, goes in the opposite direction. Stops. Continues that pattern until it gives me the "uh oh" beep.
I have spent a ridiculous amount of time trying to trouble shoot. I'm overwhelmed with the amount of information out there. I have found a few links for running it through self-diagnostics but the links are no longer good. What I could figure out for the first 5 tests, everything seems to be running. I see people making mods and firmware updates, plugging it in to their computer, etc. I've already sunk a fair amount of money into this with nothing to show - and it's brand new! I am hoping to at least get it to work before I have to buy new things for it.
Bumper is fine/not jammed, all three wheels move around and up/down correctly. Anyone have an idea why it would act like it's stuck? Anyone have a good link?
Thank you in advance!!!

It would help if we knew what model you need info about. What color is the surface the Roomba is running on?

Go to either website in my signature and use the Contact Me page to send me a message requesting a copy of the iRobot Service Manual for the 4xxx Roomba. That will get you on your way to a solution.

I have emailed twice and not heard back......I did spend some time on the phone with customer service, and think it's a bad wheel sensor. How difficult is that for an idiot like myself to switch out and where would I get the part? Or is there somewhere near Chicago I could take it?
Thanks for your help!

You can go to ebay and purchase a replacement drive wheel if you think it's the tach sensor.

You can go here: www.vic7767.com scroll down to the contact me page and send me a message that you want the 4XXX series service manual that will help you understand your Roomba.
