My Roomba 980 updated to 2.2.5-2

Postby jdong » March 7th, 2017, 8:14 pm

Not sure if I'm getting lucky or unlucky, but looks like my Roomba updated again, yesterday. This time, it's on 2.2.5-2. Not sure what's new, yet again :)

hank you for your questions.

The information I am going to provide you with is completely the same as the previous e-mail sent as there are no significant changes that have been made.

The only changes on the new firmware are minor bug fixes and faster connection to the cloud.

There is nothing else that has changed and those are the official release notes that have been provided to us.

I hope you find this information helpful and if you have any further questions, please don't hesitate to contact us as we will be more than happy to assist you.

Kind regards,

Thanks for checking! Yeah…. I don't see any observable difference either.

Is there a changelog for 2.2.5 (without the dash two part)? I have a Roomba 960, which was using 1.6.4 until today. Now when I checked on my Mr. Handy from work a minute ago, I saw that it has been using 2.2.5-2 since morning. :)

My 980 updated yesterday to 2.2.5-2, and I can confirm at the latest dorita980/rest980 still works. However, I noticed it didn't run on schedule as the internal clock read as 4PM when my actual time was 10AM (which is my scheduled runtime). I likely have to simply reboot the roomba to have it recheck timezone. Other than that, I haven't noticed any changes, though we likely won't until an updated app comes out, or they make a changelog.

Well, that confirms that... Scheduling is broken in 2.2.5-2. I don't know quite yet if it's fully broken, or it's a time issue. As of right now, my roomba is showing GMT instead of GMT-6 ((GMT-5 now, DST just started)). I'm reading the time via rest980.

Although, if it was simply a timezone issue, then it should have started up while I was still asleep, and it did not. This leads me to believe scheduling entirely is broken. I've already tried regular troubleshooting, restarting the roomba, redoing the schedules, etc. I'll update if I figure anything out, I've contacted iRobot about this issue.

EDIT: Manually set my schedule to the next 15 minute slot past the time it was reporting.... aaand nothing. So it's not just a timezone issue, it's completely ignoring the schedule.

My 980 flashed to 2.2.5-2 runs correctly on the schedule. This one is in the Central time zone.

Same timezone as mine, odd. History report is correct via the app, sadly I'm a work and cannot do any testing right now.

Edit: after testing schedules about 10 times today, it seems to have finally started itself on a scheduled time... I'll do more testing when I get home.

Edit2: I think I figured it out... I think the Roomba hasn't compensated for DST. Checking the time on it finally starting itself was at 14:30, whereas the schedule was for 13:30. So after getting home, I removed the roomba from the app and resynced it. Now it starts on schedule proper, set for 17:15 and that's when it started.

Note: Anyone noticing oddities in the roomba schedule, remove and readd your roomba to the app (I had to do it twice).

EDIT 3: WOOO! Got a call from iRobot (I contacted them about the potential issue) and discussed my findings and all, and I happened to slip a question about the 2.2.5-2 firmware and he confirmed it was for "upcoming features in the app" and I inquired further.... The CS rep sounded almost giddy as we spoke and confirmed the next app update includes.... wait for it...

Live Maps AND Push notifications!

He confirmed this several times to me and we just had a decent talk about the new features and some of our 'wanted' features that'd be cool. It was almost like talking to an excited engineering school boy. (I actually recorded the call for the lulz). He also mentioned the new app update is coming "Very soon" but couldn't give me specifics on when it'd drop. We all love robotics...

tl;dr: Excited CS rep confirmed maps and push notifications in next app update while discussing scheduling weirdness.

Thanks for the update. I could not get my rep to give any details.
LIVE maps would be great.
Push Notification is a must.

And now the app update is live. Maps for the last few runs work, will find out if the push notifications work tomorrow.

Sadly it seems just map reports... Not actual live maps yet. Disappointing...

Hell, I'm not sure I want live maps, since I don't know what I'd do with them. I bought this thing to maintain the floor while I'm at work. Maybe tinkerers find it more useful?

What I'm curious about if what happens in the map report if the Roomba gets stuck. Does it mark where it is? Would save a bit of time hunting for it when I notice it didn't make it back to the dock the couple of times it doesn't.
