Roomba 980 error 17

Love my roomba but the error 17 is killing me.
Roomba will clean for up to two hours it's almost done and returns to base for more juice.
After the recharge it goes back out and within 20-30 min I get the error 17 message.
Anyone having this problem with there 960-980?
I'm thinking with my kids and wife opening and closing the doors it may be confusing the robot?
Maybe at night there is not enough light?
What do you guys think.
Irobot not to concerned that there is a problem. But told me they may send me a new one if it keeps happening.

So, is your 980 cleaning only in the dark? at night? Does the err 17 occur in daylight?

Yes after dark, I do have some lights on. I read somewhere on here that night light would be enough light so see?
I will run after I go to bed with lights on and see what happens.

That is my understanding also. The 980 and 960 should also work in total darkness but without VSLAM enabled. Defaults to earlier Roomba AWARE program. I'm not sure what err 17 actually is associated with. Movement, mechanical, battery ?

If Roomba says “Error 17. Please open the iRobot App for help,” it means Roomba cannot complete its cleaning job. Ensure the following:

Ensure there were no changes to the environment during the cleaning cycle (i.e. closed door, moved furniture).

It is possible for Roomba to drive over transitions, such as doorway thresholds, that it cannot drive over again to leave the area. In this case, you may need to use Dual Mode Virtual Wall® Barriers to section off these areas to clean.

Ensure the house has adequate light (daylight or dim lighting is sufficient) for Roomba to navigate. Extremely dark rooms could obscure the iAdapt® localization camera and cause problems with navigation and coverage.

Excessive clutter could contribute to this error. Clear cluttered areas or use Dual Mode Virtual Wall® Barriers to block off problem areas.

Ensure the camera is clear of any dust or debris. Wipe the clear window on the top surface using a microfiber or soft cotton cloth that has been lightly dampened with water or a screen cleaning solution.

I am having the same problem.
Roomba is clean, cleaned up most of the apartment in the daylight.
Before returning to the base, like one meter in front of the base it will stop and
have the error 17. It’s very annoying.

Does anyone know how to solve this problem?

I have this problem a lot with my Roomba 980. It’ll head back to the charging base and then it’ll stop about 3 or 4 feet from the base and give me an error 17. It doesn’t do this every time, but enough to make it annoying. I’ll probably try to contact iRobot to see if they have any suggestions.

I just experienced this issue as well. The roomba was sitting a few feet from the dock. Just sitting there for no reason saying "Error 17". Once it was instructed to go to the home dock, it did so without any issues.

I get error 17 often too, 3 or 4 times a week. My 980 will get 1 to 4 feet from the base and stop and announce 17. Sometimes it is in the middle of a cleaning job, in the middle of the floor and stops and announces error 17.
