Roomba 980/960 Protective Film

Postby Shazb0t » April 6th, 2017, 10:30 am

I have noticed that these robots accumulate scratches on the IR sensors plastic shield on the front bumper as well as having the possibility of scratches on the plastic protecting the navigation camera. I can only imagine that enough buildup of these scratches would affect these sensors performance. I did some searching and see that others have tried to address this issue with varying films/tapes/foams. I am thinking of going the protective film route. Is there a consensus film that works best without being to thick or having glue that interferes with the sensors performance? Right now I'm looking at 3M Scothgard clear protective film that you would use on your car to protect the paint. Will this work? Any help would be appreciated.

I haven't tried any protective film on the Roomba surface but I do get some robots with scratches and scrapes from time to time. In those cases I have a 3 bottle set of plastic re-finisher that does pretty good. It won't restore deep cuts but does good on lesser damaged surfaces. Hi vic7767, is it possible to remove light scratches using mentioned product from the glossy surface of 980 without any surface damage?

It should work. I haven't attempted this yet on the 980 or 960 in my shop.
