Which Roomba to buy now?

Postby sformby » June 10th, 2017, 8:43 pm

I have a Roomba 565, a Scooba 450 and a BraavaJet 240.

I've decided to buy a new Roomba to add to the arsenal. It's been so long since I buought the 565 that I haven't been keeping up with the all the advances, because this little guy refuses to die. And I'm really confused!

I have low pile carpet, hardwoods and tile on one floor.

Which Roomba sold at Hammacher Schlemmer (lifetime warranty!) would you buy?

960: $700
880: $600
860: $500
690: $375
650: $375

Thanks!

The only model that has the newest vision capability (VSLAM) is the 960. There is also a 980 but evidently not carried by Hammacher Schlemmer.

I would buy the 860. I just have and it is awesome. The 960 and 980 both have wifi connectivity, but much the same cleaning results, and the 980/960 both cost a lot more. The 860 does a brilliant job on my low pile carpet and hardwood floors and rugs. Buy the way the 860 is identical to the 880 however it has the lithium ion battery for longer cleaning times and it lasts longer as well. I would highly recommend the 860! youll be VERY happy. Major upgrade from the 565. I have the 577. It's awesome. Had it since 2010. Won't die. You can use them both in combination. GOOD LUCK :)

960, the VSLAM navigation is worth it.

Yes, the VSLAM is pretty awesome but if you're ready to pay $700 for a robotic vacuum, add a little more and go for the 980 model. It's way better than the Roomba 960.

From the list you've dropped, I'd say that the 860 and 880 models are the best choices judging form their capabilities and prices. In the Roomba 860 vs 880 battle, I think, that the 880 model is a more thoughtful buy since it offers better features and capabilities.

Roomba 960 does exceed every robotic vacuum in your list but I think the Roomba 980 is a better choice.

Just wait for the $100 off manufacturers sale iRobot does often. Which I think is currently going on right now. Head to Bed, Bath, and Beyond and stack the 20% off coupon with it. Bam 960 and 980 for a very good price.

Agreed.

VSLAM now or wait for prices to come down a bit more and then pull the trigger. I wouldn't drop money on a rando-bumper at this point.

I would buy 690 because I hate this worthless extractor technology! It can't clean area rug and carpet as good as 600/700's did.

It depends !!

Yeah, It completely depends on you.

Roomba offers some best robot vacuums like 650,980,880,870 and the new wifi enabled roomba 690.

Want to have the powerful suction and at the same time with full packed wallet then go for 980.

And for pet hair 880 is the ideal option.

And if you are on the budget and at the same time looking for an ideal one for everything then go for 650.

A lot of the purchase decision will require information to your particular environment and cleaning needs. If you are looking for simplicity and turn-key function and low cost look for the 6XX models. There are even WiFi models in the 6XX, 7XX, and 8XX models. The 9XX models are the first models that utilize VSLAM hardware for room mapping using digital cameras instead of LIDAR units. These 900 models provide a digital image of the cleaning area completed via an Android or iOS device that is also used to control the Roomba as well as schedule cleaning times.

If you are a person that enjoys playing with your Roomba, they are all equipped with Open interface software that lets you communicate with the internal motors and sensors to do different tasks. That same interface also has the ability to provide all the diagnostic information of your Roomba. If you like to tinker, all of the iRobot Models have various mods that can be performed on them to improve longevity and reduce some maintenance activity.

There are some sellers on Amazon and ebay that offer earlier models like the 5XX and even the 110 Dirt Dog can be found as well as the 4XX and 4XXX models. These previously used models will also be lower priced units.
