roomba for humid/tropical climate

Postby sl_robot » October 11th, 2017, 8:11 am

Hi everyone,

I am planning to buy a Roomba 866, which meets my requirements and budget. My home is in Sri Lanka which is a tropical island that has a very humid climate 80%+ for most of the year. The house is completely tiled.

I usually clean once a week and the floor gets very dusty from fine particulate matter towards the end of the week. the humidity makes it sort of stick to the tiled floor. There is no other type of debris like pet hair.

So my question is this? does the roomba have enough suction power/floor contact to clean up this type dirty floor? I plan to run this every other day.

Thanks

The Roomba is not advertised as a good vacuuming robot. The 8XX models do not use a bristle brush and rubber beater brush like all other Roomba models that are numbered 7XX, 6XX, 5XX, and 4XX, 4XXX models. The 8XX and 9XX use a newer designed rubber extractor style set of brushes without bristles. Very effective for environments with pet and human hair. The 8XX models will not be very effective in the climate you have described. You may be better off using one of the iRobot Braava model robots.

I thought as much. Thanks for clearing it up. Is this capable of handling a1000sq floor with a main living area and 3 bedrooms?

The iRobot site defines the Braava 300 series is able to sweep 1K ft. and mop 350 sq ft and also has navigation with the cube accessory.
