Roomba 880 charging/battery woes.

First off I am new here and found this forum due to charging or battery issues.

Our 880 would be found dead with base in same room. It would run less and less. When on charging base for days, trying to runI get the charge Roomba error. On base the battery flashes rapidly orange, saying 16 hour mode. I have reset by holding clean for 10+ seconds.

I tested pins inside Roomba with base touching charging terminals. 17 volts on big pins. 4.87 volts on little pins below big ones. On big terminals on battery 16.6 after on charger for 72 hours.

New battery reads 16.7 as well. It was on base for 30+ hours. New battery was warm to touch but not hot.

Roomba is sending a new charging base.

Anything else to check? Trying learn from you guys. Fluke has been recently calibrated and assume readings are very close.

How old is your battery?
If older than 1 year, you may need a new battery.
Charging battery directly: 400 Series, 500 Series,. How to Desolder

Our 880 was bought around Mother’s Day of 2017. I have a battery that is new that I ordered last week. New charging base from Roomba, new battery and on charger it still flashes fast amber indicating 16 hour maintenance charge. However it has been on charge for 24 hours or more. When removed from charge I get a red battery light and please charge Roomba message.

Now I am trying to find next step.

Time to call iRobot to get a new 880 replacement unit.
Charging battery directly: 400 Series, 500 Series,. How to Desolder

That is where I am at now. At first they did not want to do anything without a receipt. But I was like it’s a 880 not a 5../6.. series. I have original box in attic but not receipt. I had priced 2 more 960 through IRobot and told them I wanted to see how this was handled first.

We shall see. I will update if resolved.
