Curious. Has anyone tried reducing the contact noise when my 595 Roomba collides with an object? I use external rubber bumper strips, but could felt pads be placed internally to buffer the plastic on plastic noise?

Normally the Light Touch sensors inside the center of the front bumper will slow down the Roomba prior to encountering an object. It the object is thin or a dark color then full speed will not slow prior to impact since the Light Touch sensor will not detect the object. Attempting to install quieting felt pads inside the bumper may limit the bumper sensor arm travel and prevent the sensor from operating. Careful measurements may be necessary and may not work. The mod you want to perform has not been posted on the forum yet, you will become a trailblazer.

I have to install a new charging jack, so may take the opportunity.
Mine usually slows, but only for "head on" objects.

While you have your Roomba apart check for dust buildup on those Light Touch sensors. Good luck with your mod.

I've started with a simple, non-invasive first step. I added two thin velcro tape pieces between the bumper and the unit. It is somewhat quieter on impact, without some of the sharp plastic on plastic noise.

This finally worked out for my 595 and 695. The Roomba will never be silent, but it did reduce a lot of the the plastic hitting plastic noise without affecting the bumper. Much better now.
Much of the noise on mine is the front plastic wheel when transitioning between our low pile area rug and stained concrete.
(Also, the Hoover belt replacement tires continue to perform)
