Roomba 960 how long does it take to update firmware?

Postby Bobkeenan » May 16th, 2018, 4:04 pm

I want the maps.... its one of the reasons I upgraded to this unit. It came with V 2.2.10-1 which does not have the mapping. I have the wifi connection and can control it with my iphone. It operated fine but after I selected the software update I got “Software Update has been requested. This update may take a couple of hours- we’ll let you know when the update is complete. After doing a partial cleaning cycle I have left the unit in the base station for 16 hours. No change. I tried irobot chat and they said that it can take 24-48 hours and I had to leave it at the base station????? This is messed up. I update a lot of firmware on a lot of devices..... and nothing takes that long. Thinking it might be me I rebooted the wireless router no change. I pulled the batteries for 1 min on the roomba, did not work. I did a factory reset on the roomba..... nothing.

Does it really take that long? Are there any work arounds? I have read about manual pushed updates from irobot???

Getting your iRobot Roomba 9XX scheduled into the iRobot server is what takes a long time. Actual downloading of the firmware is about a 2 minute job.

So getting scheduled for irobot server... is that likely to take 24-48 hrs?

That's a tossup question with no real answer. Normally once you id your 900 model by registering online via the app your Roomba is entered into the server queue for the latest firmware if yours is below the latest release version it is usually flashed within 24 hours. You might want to delete your Roomba and start over with registering.

It finally updated. I don’t know if my turn just came up on the irobot server or if I did something for it to happen because I did EVERYTHING. Reset modem, reset router, move router closer to roomba, multiple roomba factory resets, removed Roomba batteries many times for 1 min at a time. It would behave differently most times like sometimes it would not set up to my wifi that is 7 ft away. I got frustrated and decided to leave it alone for a day or two. I had done 24hrs before. But about 2 hrs later I get a notice on my iphone that the roomba updated!!
