Replace Roomba Tires

Postby leonicholson » September 22nd, 2018, 7:54 pm

Out of curiosity, I bought a used Roomba that needs new tires. Just want to test different methods I've found on the internet. These Kirby belts turned inside out are said to fit well. Will see.

Takes the challenge away. :)
Plus, this is a $2.50 repair for both wheels on a $36 Roomba.

I buy kid-size silicone arm-bands (in funky bright colours) and they work a treat. They are okay just stretched into place, but I usually put some glue on to hold them.

I think I paid $5 for 10 pairs last time...

Received the ($36) Roomba 665 today. Works normally.
Just put the kid bands on for testing (without glue).

Seems to work ok with the bands, but they do slip off without glue. (I don't want to permanently attach yet).

Will test Kirby belts when they arrive.

Received the Kirby belts and fit them over the existing worn tires.
Very tight fit. The treads are the same width as the originals and have a good tread pattern.

Just ran the vac for 135 minutes. Tires still straight (without glue).
Not bad for two $1.25 tires which brings the cost up to $38.60 total for a vac that cleaned up like new and turned out to have a strong iRobot battery.

Some good ideas here from you guys. Thanks. I have also tried 3D printing treads from thingaverse and they came out good. Those roombas must have done alot of km's over the years to wear the tire down so much !

I have no idea. I expected it to be very worn all over.
In fact, nothing but the tires showed any wear at all.
Just very, very dirty.

Update

After several days, one belt slipped sideways. Used some rubber tire cement between the old tire and the Kirby belt. Several weeks without a problem so far.
