Roomba 690 not charging, requesting troubleshooting advice

Postby Jippah » September 30th, 2018, 2:08 pm

Greetings technicians!

I have a Roomba 690 that I’ve recently updated the firmware (about a week ago) and the robot did its thing around the house just as designed.

But now the little bugger will not charge at all. I’ve reseated the battery, thoroughly cleaned the contact points, and tried using my multimeter to ensure the home base is producing voltage (although it’s only at 3v)

Anyone have any more troubleshooting I could do?

The home base will switch charging voltage and current once a battery is detected in your Roomba. What is the stored battery voltage of the battery?

How do I check the stores battery voltage? There are 4 terminals on this battery, 2 negatives and 2 positives; a large and small of each polarity..

After trying all manner of combinations on the 4 battery terminals, I’m left with these two being the highest numbers;
Small positive and large negative terminals - 2.93v
Large positive and small negative terminals - 2.88v

All other combinations tried yielded very low or no readings

The two large contacts are battery & ground. The two small contacts are the thermistor, used for battery temperature. If the two large contacts read less than 9 vdc, don't try and charge the battery inside the Roomba. Instead use an alternate battery charger or another battery.

I rigged up a 19v charger for the batter and left it charging on the two large positive and negative terminals for about 2 hours. I disconnected the charger and put a voltmeter on the large battery terminals and I get the same result as I did before I started all this, 0.039v.

Is my battery toast?
