Roomba 560 troubleshooting

Postby ddinnsen » October 30th, 2018, 9:54 am

my roomba 560 stopped in the middle of the room as if it hit a cliff or obstacle, and tried backing up a few times, then stopped and said to move to a new location. For a while, after moving it, it would run for a while before repeating the scenario. Now it will not not start at all. Note it does not give a code, but simply says, "move roomba to a new location and press clean to restart". It seems like I had a failing sensor (either cliff or obstacle) or processor section. Any other ideas or suggestions for troubleshooting? Do both the cliff and obstacle sensors work in a normally open circuit that short when true? If so, could I simply unplug them one at a time to troubleshoot?

Head over here and download the iRobot Service manual, read through the document and learn how and what is tested when performing the MANUAL built in tests. Ignore the automatic tests.

Is the front wheel moving freely on its shaft - not with the shaft?

Roomba is monitoring the front wheel rotation. If front wheel is not rotating, it will stop and backup a few times trying to get the front wheel rotating again.
