780 vs 880

To anyone who has experience of both, is the 780 significantly worse than the 880 or is it negligible?

The 780 has a Cleaning Head Module with a bristle brush and a rubber beater brush. There is a larger area that is not directly connected to the dust bin from the back of the CHM.

The 880 has a Cleaning Head Module that is comprised of two equal diameter extractor brushes with a tighter vacuum connection from the rear of the CHM to the dust bin. There may be some additional benefit of better vacuum flow into the dust bin.

The trade off between the two style CHMs cleaning ability will depend on the type of cleaning surfaces presented to the Roomba.

I use both in the same areas that are comprised of Berber short pile carpet and Linoleum. Both perform very well. Short hair Boston Terrier presents no hair issues.

Thanks Vic. This is for all tile and wood floors with a few rugs here and there. I have an 880 which I really like and I’m looking for a few more, but the 780s are significantly cheaper. Just wondering if anything really justifies the extra money.

vic, could you also give your opinion on the 870 vs 880?
navigation seems to be a main difference.

Botty, can't offer an opinion between those two. All I have is the 880. I suspect that both the 870 and 880 are running the same firmware so navigation should be the same.

My Dad has a 700-series Roomba and I have 880. IMHO 880 performs better on bare floors regarding regular dust. 700 is a PITA when it comes to cleaning hair out of the brush.

Thanks all. I’m actually now leaning towards an e5 as it seems to be an evolution of the 800 series. Damned if I can find anywhere to buy filters though, which is slightly concerning.

Not sure where you’re located but iRobot sells them in the US:

based in the uk. i contacted irobot who said there have been logistical problems and e5 filters won't be available in uk/eu until next month from their site and "maybe" other retailers after that.

So you’re basically all set to got with the e5, as you won’t be needing a new filter right away.

yes indeed, i have 6 months leeway, but i wanted to check in case it becomes one of those models where it's inexplicably impossible to get a crucial part (e.g. try buying a neato D7/D5 battery in the UK. it's basically impossible, which is utter madness imo)

Huh. I’ve never had a Neato, yet all iRobot parts were always available for me in Europe (even for the ancient scoobas 390). I guess it’s due to a high number of Roombas available.

exactly. although i have 3 neatos at home, i'm in a capital city with fast internet so finding parts is possible, if not easy. The location i want new robots for is in the mountains, with zero internet or cellular, in another country, far from anywhere, so the ease of getting parts for irobot is what's made me go with them in this case.
