655 will only dock, never cleans

Postby Jefflund » January 19th, 2019, 7:14 pm

Hey all,

I got a 655 IRobot from a friend that needs fixing. It charges fine on the base, but when I press clean it does nothing. If I drag it off the charger the dock light comes on and it immediately tries to find base. It will run for over and hour looking for it’s base until it finally runs out of juice. I did both a soft reset holding spot and dock for 10 seconds and also pulled the battery for 10 minutes and reinstalled. Anyone have any ideas what i should try next? I am at a loss here... thanks in advance,

Jeff

If the battery can run this 655 for an hour looking for the home base, that battery is fine. Something is bugging this 655 to tell it to turn on the dock light and looking for home base. Run BiT to find out what is bugging the 655.

Is the front wheel turning freely?
Run the 655 without the dust bin. Is the brushes turning looking from behind?

Would a Stück Day Button cause this? The day button does not press, the hour/min buttons work fine.

As TechGuy mentioned, the Roomba has a built in diagnostic program that can be activated using a special button press sequence. Once activated you can test each and every sensor and motor installed. This will help you identify what is causing your issues.

You can go here and read about how to activate the tests in MANUAL mode and test your Roomba:

Thanks everyone for the help. The roomba goes in to diagnostics but won’t cycle tests. I took it down to the main board and found the roomba had been peed on by a dog. The dog urine is encrusted on the board, and it destroyed the Day button and there is corrosion everywhere. I am surprised this 655 works at all. I have ordered a board from eBay $50, not sure if that is a good deal or not but at this point I am on a mission to get this fixed!

Be careful when ordering a board.
Many state 500/600, but may not have RF, Scheduling or Docking.

I put a motherboard from my 595 into a 650 that works ok, leaving me with a perfect 595 without a motherboard. :?
I am hunting a board for the 595, but will probably buy a used 595 or 650 for the board, as boards seem to cost as much or more than used Roombas.

The one I bought was only $50, but it is coming from Canada, so in the mean time I am going to put all my tools to the test and see if I can repair this motherboard!
