Battery recommendations

Postby guvnaar » April 3rd, 2019, 3:48 am

Any new battery recommendations for these following 8 year old Roombas?

530 - Current Battery model:3000 Ni-MH
630 - Current Battery Ni-Cd 2200mAh

3500NiMH batteries on ebay are around US$30 and Lithium range between US$40 and $80 None of them explicitly stat they have cell balancing tech so its a little confusion as to what to try?

As far as batteries are concerned, those two machines are the same (ie battery pick would be the same)

If you are going Nickel, steer away from the higher Ah ratings - I find that the chemically fragile and don't last.
If you are going Lithium, steer away from anything cheap. It used to be ONLY ANewPow and LithiumPower that had cell balancing, there are now some cheaper alternatives that do have it too (I stock one of these and these seem pretty good so far).

Don't cheap out - it's not worth it.

I think 3300mAh to 3500mAh is the sweet spot.

This is just my 5c opinion based on my experience - I can not back it up with any science.

Do consider the brand. Both PowerExtra and Tenergy seem to last a long time for us.

A comment on NICADs. I raced RC vehicles for years and NICADs are more tolerant of abuse (over discharge and charge). Although you may not get long run-time the NIMH battery may last longer.
