Scooba 340

Postby scoobanewbie on December 26th, 2007, 3:54 pm

I just purchased a new scooba 335 through HSN, after reading all the great info through the board. Christmas Eve it arrived and to my surprise they sent me a 340 which as stated on the box: Cleans 850 sq ft in a single cycle!! It came with the mat, virual wall etc, just as advertised for the 335. So it appears I have a Scooba 380 as iRobot likes to call them for the great price of 223.90(including shipping). It is cleaning as I write and I just refilled the solution tank and the battery is still going strong!

Has anyone else receive this and am I interpreting this correct?

Welcome to RobotReviews, scoobanewbie. :D

Thanks for the heads up on such a great deal. :D

I just now ordered one so I'll be able to compare its speed to the 5xxx's and 350 which have similar speed.

HSN is still using the same description, as 335 with 500 sq ft which indicates a non 380 speed and two cycle battery, although we know that several people have received the 335 with one cycle battery (and requesting the high capacity battery from HSN, as they are advertising the two cycle=500 sq ft).

If indeed it is a "repackaged" 380, {HOPE HOPE} 850 sq ft then it should 1) include the two cycle battery AND move faster than the others as the 380 does.

What colors is yours? Typically the 3xx models come with some grey parts and grey bumper. Then again, you never know what colors iRobot will use for "special" packages for select retailers.

Great price. The lowest prices I've purchased for was $150 for Amazon remanufactured with only 3 months factory warranty making the HSN price a great deal. I wasn't going to purchase another one but I gave one away recently and Bert (almost 2 years old, 600 missions) just had an impeller malfunction, so this deal is hard to beat  even more so if it is the "380" and has the two cycle battery.

Sorry to say my Bert won't go to RoombaExchange for fixing, for a while now, as was previously planned, but some broken 4xx Roombas certainly are going in "hospital", or are already there. :) Bert still charges, though, so he's performing some duties while out on sick leave.

Mine is dark blue with a lighter blue bumper, and a dark blue battery. Looks just like the picture they are showing at HSN.

Thanks scoobanewbie.

That has been typically the colors used on the 5800. The 5900 has the white/blue body and medium blue bumper (same bumper as the 5800). The 350 and 380 have typically had the midnight blue body and grey bumper. But there have been reports of some remanufactured units (they look and work as new) with "mixed" parts. I think I have one of those as I have a remanufactured "5800" appearing Scooba (fall 07) whose tank does not have the same colors as my bought new (summer 07) 5800. My remanufactured 5900 (fall 07) looks just like my old, first release 5900s.

If you would be so kind... could you post the Serial Number of your Scooba, found on top deck of body on white sticker. Do not post, please, the last seven (7) digits of number for your security reasons. The first part of SN is the model number and date of manufacture. I do have one coming from HSN but hard to wait to see what the SN will be.

BTW... I took some pictures of the different tanks for my various models. It is interesting and there are various combinations of colors. The only one that has some grey parts is the 350 and its tank body is a midnight blue (darker than the "dark blue") vs the dark blue found on the 5800s.

My 335 and accessories look just like the attached picture from HSN. Yours does not, because the picture does not show a dark blue battery. And I can't get HSN to send me a replacement battery (said no by phone and haven't even replied to my e-mail after TWO WEEKS), and I'm running out of time on return, so I guess I'll just return the whole thing.

Having another problem besides battery life now. Every time the clean tank gets low, the check tank light comes on, and it sits in one place and slowly leaks the remaining water onto the floor.

So I guess that I'm zero for two on the HSN robots I ordered after Thanksgiving.

The serial number is JEN34071071024XXXXXXX. So if I am understanding correctly, the date of manufact. is 10/24/07.

How can I be sure that I received either the 335 as I thought I ordered or the 340 which actually came? I used the machine just once yesterday and the battery made it completely through one tank and almost through the second. It is my understanding that it may take a few uses to get the battery to work up to its two full tanks. Is this correct? The battery is dark blue (same blue as they show online at irobot) 14.4V, 4100mAh capacity.

As a matter of interest, just where did you find that capacity value?

iRobot has never, AFAIK, announced the actual amp-hour capacity in any of its batteries! We must dig inside to obtain that 'secret' stuff!

the 4100mAh was printed on the back of the battery with a bunch of other "stuff".

Well I'll be.

iRobot has changed the label on newest batteries.

I just went to the Scooba closet to check my 11 batteries. Most are old label, dark blue, two cycle with no Ah designation with the following exceptions:

1 dark blue single cycle that came with new HSN 5800 purchased 8-07 no Ah designation

1 light blue, nonAPS that iRobot shipped me in late summer 07 to "hold me over" till out of stock warranty APSs arrived from China (2.5 month or maybe 3 months wait for that) 3000 mAh on label

1 dark blue two cycle warranty replacement, Sept 07, came in from long awaited back order of batteries from China after several months wait, 4100 mAh, on label.

The Ah rating is on left hand column of printing on label, on back of battery, last item.

Also received a '340'

Postby alex on December 31st, 2007, 3:59 pm

I too ordered a Scooba 335 from HSN after seeing a recommendation on-line. The box that arrived contained a Scooba 340. It did not include a base station, as I had been led to believe by the on-line review I read, but it did match the description on HSN. The box does say it will cover 850 sq. feet. The robot is blue and blue, with a blue battery and blue storage mat (and blue virtual wall unit). I'm new to Roomba/Scooba, but it seems like a good deal (as was the 335).

The prices at HSN were so good, I splurged and bought a Roomba 535 as well. That arrived exactly as described (although it unexpectedly arrived before Christmas, almost spoiling the Scooba surprise).

Picked up my HSN 340 from UPS store today. Indeed it does have the dark blue, 4100 mAH battery and is pretty close to the 5800 in color. Interestingly the box did not include the bulb syringe used for priming Scooba. The two HSN 5800's purchased spring/summer 07, two Amazon Re-manufactured fall 07, warranty replacements summer 07 and late fall 07 all had the bulb syringe for priming.

Mastiff, in particular, or anybody interested, the box has a picture of a Mastiff on it. :D

You lucky ducks. I ordered from HSN on 12/13 and got the 335 with the light blue battery. I almost get 2 full tanks to a battery charge. :(

Emily, I forget, have you contacted HSN for a 4100 mAH battery, the dark blue one? Several members have done so.

HSN, in the description states (for the 335), "Easily rechargeable battery lasts long enough to clean up to 500 square feet per cleaning cycle." The 3000 mAH, battery is rated for "250 sq ft".

BTW.... I haven't run my 340 yet to see if it moves as fast as the 380 does. Faster speed than the 5xxx's and 350 is the only way it will be able to do the amount of sq footage on 340 box, "850 sq ft in a single cycle" using the 4100 mAH battery. Hopefully will run them today to compare.

HSN 340 is now running along side 350 in same room. 350 has equivalent speed to 5xxx series. 340 is much faster than 350, not twice as fast but crosses a square tile almost twice as fast as 350 does. Hence the 340 can be rated at 850 sq ft, with 4100 mAH battery, just as the 380 is.

340 is leaving a bit less moisture on floor than 350. Out of all of mine till now the 350 has had best pickup.

340 is a bit quieter than 350. 350 is a bit quieter than 5xxx's.

Really great deal if you can get the 340 from HSN that is advertised as a 335.

Does anyone know if HSN is replacing 335 by 340 or it is introducing 340 in addition to 335? I just ordered my Scooba from HSN last Thursday. Will see if I will be getting 340 instead of 335 in the box.

Sorry to say we don't know. :( But please report what you get. The more info we collect the closer we will be to answering the question.

Good luck getting the 340 although the 335 should be a fine machine too.

I will when I get my Scooba this week. I found this article and I was surprised to read that HSN Scooba 335 may even come with a charging base in additional to the longer batery life (refer to the comparison chart)? I am not so sure until I see what is in my Scooba shipment.

http://robotdeals.blogspot.com/

"Next up is the HSN exclusive model - the Scooba 335. This model is an even better value, and quite frankly, no other model even comes close to the Scooba 335!

Take a look at this Comparison Chart taken directly from iRobot's website to see the differences among the retail versions of the Scooba. Notice how they have conveniently left the Scooba 335 off of the chart? That's because there is simply no comparison! Take a look at the chart with the Scooba 335 added in:

As you can see from the True Scooba Comparison Chart, not only does the Scooba 335 cost almost half of the price of the Scooba 350, it is actually SUPERIOR to the Scooba 350 in every way! The Scooba 335 is actually in between the Scooba 350 and the Scooba 380, and would therefore be valued at roughly $449 according to the pricing of the other models. The fact that the Scooba 335 is actually superior to the Scooba 5800 and the Scooba 350, while selling for almost half the price makes the Scooba 335 the clear choice of all current Scooba models.

The Scooba 335 is only available from HSN.

Get the Scooba 335 from HSN.com Here."
