On the tile floor, the brush does not make the noise. The carpet is not very thick and the old brush did not make the noise. Is anyone else experiencing this?
I found that I needed two tiny metal washers for the brush caps to fit properly.
Thanks for the info!
Just got a replacement xv-11 (previous one had the unreadable screen problem), and halfway through its first run with the pet brush installed, started hearing those brush-slipping noises. Signed on, found this thread, went with djos's washer solution, and so far it's worked. Thanks!
Two thoughts: 1) these machines (Neato's, Roombas, etc.) are just plain fragile; and 2) the internet has us users doing a lot of what used to be customer support/quality control work, and it's amazingly effective.
I wouldn't call them fragile (they are pretty darn tuff bots) but they do seem to have a very high early fail rate. When you get a good one tho they are brilliant.

Yes, of course I did - sorry but that's like being asked if you have your computer plugged in - a bit insulting. The side with the teeth is lined up with the belt. It performs fine on the hard floor but on the rug it slips and you can hear the teeth slipping as the belt slips over the teeth of the brush. Videos posted here, note the performance on hard floor and on the rug and how it treats the rug like a barrier to climb:
It fits into the brush area fine, it's not a fit issue, it is experiencing too much friction on the rug to be able to keep the belt traction.
I worked in IT for years and still do, in a slightly different fashion. You wanna guess how many times telling a user to just reboot their machine fixed their problem? You know how many calls that I got that started out, my comm program worked fine till I installed a modem? And oddly enough, I have actually had people call in with their computers not working and they were in fact, unplugged. While you may feel it is insulting, you wanna guess at how often something simple actually fixes a problem? Sorry if you feel insulted but it did need to be asked.
I was only able to fit one washer in - I put it on the side away from the belt because I could see that pushed the gears in better line with the belt. Your fix worked, the brush works better now and no more tooth-slipping! Thanks for the tip, so glad to have this forum for these little fixes! Neato should start shipping the brush with washers and instructions to insert of the fit is off.
Is there any consensus if this new brush will prevent or at least reduce the amount of hair that gets wrapped around the motor? If it can do that I think I'll pull the trigger because I really hate having to take my neato apart to clean it.
I've gone three weeks now (that's 9 runs) without having to remove my brush, and it still is not showing signs of the ends being clogged with hair. With Roomba, I had to clean the brush after every mission.
If I were you, I'd pull the trigger.

My review on the new brush:
It's much quieter. No more rubber flapping noise.
I didn't had to use any washers to make a good fit in the body.
After the first run I must say I'm a little disappointed, though.
Everyone's seems to be happy about it's improved hair removing. But what about debris?
To me, it feels like the standard brush did make a better job removing havier debris (like sand) from hard floors...
With the beater, they claim around every 3 months replace the plastic strips, so what about the Pet Hair Brush?
There is plastic bars, plus brush, can you replace the strips, or have to throw it away for a new brush?
Does it wear, and last much better then the beater?
