There are TWO different reasons for the Clean Brush error

My new Neato is issuing many complaints to clean the brush during cleaning missions. When the robot is flipped over and the brush is inspected, there does not appear to be alot of debris around the brush. Anyone know the trigger that creates this complaint ?

Please call Neato customer support at 1-877-296-3286 and discuss the behavior with them. They can determine if this is related to a cleaning surface in your home or if there is a problem with the Neato.

The clean brush error occurs when the Neato detects that the brush is not rotating fast enough. It assumes there is something wrapped around the brush that is slowing it down.

neato, thanks much for the explanation of the brush rpm sensor. Although the carpet in my home is short there are areas that have not been exposed to wear as other areas. I moved some things out of a main room I was attempting to clean. It is very possible that the robot encountered an area with no wear and that may have caused the brush to work harder and trigger the event.

Not sure what is in the Neato gearbox. Time for a bearing conversion kit Ed?

It will be interesting to hear about what types of Neato problems exist once many are deployed. Hopefully Neato learned from Irobot and also didn't invent new issues.

I noticed that Neato learn much from Navibot. For the first, its cleaning pattern - first along the walls and then entire floor. Better cleaning effect, I guess. And it doesn't do torsional stiff movements (like Navibot does) - just a gentle curve. In these situation Navibot sometimes leaves some dust clumbs behind him, Neato shouldn't do that, I think.

I've used mine only 4 or 5 times and just received the subject message. Now I'm trying to figure out how to remove the "cage" to access the brushes ... it is not mentioned in the manual!

Unfortunately, I'm getting this every time I run the XV-11 despite a totally clean brush (including bearings under rubber caps)

Neato is crap it seems... According to me.. Kärcher RC 3000 is the best... IT IS THE BEST...

We know the Neato brush error is triggered by how fast the brush motor is turning. Therefore if the brush and its brass bushings are clean and there is nothing on the small belt then the motor itself must be failing to run at the proper speed. This might be caused by a poor battery connection to the motor or a defective motor. Neither issue can be resolved by the Neato owner but the warranty will cover that failure. Contact Neato for resolution.

I now have the same problem.

When the robot starts, then it either immediately complains about "my brush is stuck", or it goes a few feet and then stops saying "my brush is overloaded". And I already cleaned the brush thoroughly, including under the end caps.

My impression is that this problem got worse over time. At first the robot would complain about an overloaded brush on every mission, but with good reason. I have long hair and didn't vacuum very often, so the brush was honestly entangled in hair, including around the brass bearings under the end caps.

But my impression was that over time it requires less and less hair around the brush for the robot to complain. Towards the end a single little "o-ring" of entangled hair wrapped next to a single brass bearing would cause it to give up on the brush.

And now it doesn't work anymore.

Now would be the time to contact Neato since you have cleaned the brush and the end caps including the two brass bushings. There are no other user accessible areas to clean.

Quite possible...especially if Neato add to its FAQ list new section.

They recommend to clean the brush shaft, which probably was not mention in this forum, yet (I am mistake?).

This screeching sound can occur when hair wraps around the brush bearing.
