That is very strange for an XV-11, XV-12 brush assembly. The brush design allows either end of the brush to be installed into the brush holder and accept the belt drive. The cups and bushings are the same on both ends.

The VR-100 on the other hand is designed to be installed only one way.

Slight variance in diameter not affecting brass bushings but does bearings. Non-fitting side shaft only .02 mm thicker. Shaft is on the outside of 4mm size tolerance. Can always use them for a belt-side only stiffening of the mount against belt tension for end cup bending and rubbing.

Shaft diameter problem: when one beater shaft proved .01mm too thick for the 4mm bearing, slight grinding the shaft just proved easier: when replacing the rubber end cup with a thinner one outside the geared cap, only the outer end of the shaft needs thinning , so there is room for the bushing to assist spinning the shaft for grinding. Just assuming needs support vs just chucking the whole thing in a drill.

I've run into that issue also. Different aluminum assemblies are off just a bit on the metal axle ends. I use some 2000 grit sandpaper and then finish by polishing with a crocus cloth.

Bearing friction: With two ball bearings in thinner end cups, flicking the beater (with the belt off) spins it rapidly 4 seconds; scarcely 1/2 second with bushings in standard end cups (they rub inside the gear cap I suspect). Vane drag on the floor probably swamps this.
