Sure. Not that hard to figure, what you wanted to say with your previous post.

But that does not explain, why it works great at the second place. Less than 6 inch each side.

And it does not explain, why navigational errors stopped as well, after relocating the base to that hidden location. And no, I did not clean the sensors or the laser inbetween..

And since kelliot described issues I had as as well with the first location, Ijust wanted to say : Relocate, it might work better then.

PS: Some people (like me) do not stick to manuals concerning robot locations, since these robots are not really nice looking. Thats the reason hidden places where chosen, where some might cause errors and some not.

Although your parking lot is a clean place, you will probably need to pull from bumpers to reach the start button.

No. 7.5 inches to reach the start buttom ....but one of the things I like about the Neato,is, that it runs with timer.
Maybe funny in the beginning to start manually, demonstrating visitors, but since these robots do not fly (yet) ...I have to knee down for this regardless of robot brand or location. So kneeing for taking out the bin is all I do.

But since you are the third guy asking this, there must be lots of manual starters around...and I asked myself before whats the use of robot mowers and robot vacs without timer, and wondered why they are still sold.

I had my XV-11 docking under a directors chair for a while ... just to prove it could

Not sure what you've proved with this video. The director chair legs are too thin to be seen as obstacles. For all intents, it's as if the Neato saw itself as being against a bare wall.

OK, challenge accepted ;) I have an old roll-top desk with little more than leg space underneath between two stacks of drawers. Neato rolls in and out of there while cleaning and can also dock under it too. So another video to do when I'm back home in a few days.

I finally got around to doing a video of my XV-11 docking in a very confined space under an old desk.

Yes, it was a bit dark under the desk 8)
I was a little concerned shining a very bright light on it might upset the LIDAR, but it worked fine.

It would be, but it's located on the wrong level or a split level home. The upper level is big enough to require a mid-vacuum recharge while the lower level shown, gets by easily on one charge. I really could do with a second Neato! Another reality is that this docking location may seem very clever, but it's not that reliable. Just don't tell anyone, OK!

I guess there are those who schedule and others who manually start. Personally in 8 months I have never once used the schedule; I just have no need for it. I need to prepare for the run a little, like moving a few legs, lifting drapes, then I just press the button and get on with whatever I was doing. The use is that it vacuums for me; that's what I bought it for. I also have 4 floors which it can cover with one charge, so I need only 1 bot for the whole house.

He prolly means 4 rooms.

We used to schedule our Neato and Roomba a before that and then we had our daughter - anyone with kids will tell you that scheduling plus kids is virtually impossible! :D

:D 4 floors, each done on a single run. If it can manage your largest area in one run and you don't really need scheduling, just one base station and one Neato will suffice.

My Neato xv-21 running 3.0.17235 has never successfully docked. It just comes back and stops about a foot away from the docking station. No backup dance. The docking station has 4-5 feet of clearance on each side. This is already my 2nd unit.

Is it safe to downgrade the firmware to 2.6? I heard docking was better in 2.6. Thanks!

Not only is the XV-21 with firmware 3.0 the newest Neato, it also has some major hardware changes within the mobo. So even if you could load the older firmware into the unit it would not be compatible.

As stated in this post, the public release of firmware 3.1 has been pushed back to at least February 2013. :-(
