I'm inclined to be a little impulsive when free improvements are offered, so I was front of the queue to get sucked into Apple's advertising for their iOS 6 'upgrade' back in September. Now my iPad doesn't work as nicely as once it did.

I'm sure Neato have only good intentions and even better firmware, however I'm hoping a few of you get in first and post a quick report before I plug mine into the Web. I don't want my iPad and my Neato to find they don't do maps!
#1 Neato XV-11 SW 2.0 Board Rev 113 / 3500mAh battery pack installed May 2013 / Pet & Allergy pack installed Sept 2013. In July 2014, received and repaired a faulty #2 Neato XV-11, which also runs perfectly now

Conditions changed from last week. The Eagle is still grounded because of last-last-minute fixes from feedback. Sorry about that.

Any chance we could get a more detailed change log this time as generic descriptions like "improved navigation" are meaningless! We'd like to know under what conditions navigation improved and so on, so then we can make an informed decision as to whether or not we upgrade.

Btw, one thing I noticed on the several Neato's I've had is that after a FW upgrade my Neato will play up after a couple of weeks (getting lost etc) and I'll need to take the batteries out for 30mins to completely reset it (normal shutdown is not permanently effective) and after that it's perfect. Have you guy's done anything in 3.1 to improve Neato's ability to reset itself fully via the shutdown command?

I'm much happier waiting a bit longer for what should be a better quality release.

Agree with you both. Fix any issues, release a good product. That's more important than rushing a product.

Hopefully this new release won't HUMP my speakers to death. I had to buy a ton of barrier tape, and surround EVERY BASE with this stuff. Including my fan. I guess the shinny black the neato doesn't like. It gets stuck on it every time. Right now it's running with the new tape in place, looks good so far . . . . Just sucks I had to put unsightly tape all over the place to stop the molestation haha

Board SW 17242

Uh oh, I ordered a new one like this from Costco to try, and not only does it look like a refurb (signs of dust and bangs), it has a number of very strange alternate universe-like changes.

The label is different, but it doesn't fit the label hole. The tamper-proof stickers are just white. The plastic texture is different. There is no thick manual. There is a cover on the charge port. The charge base has totally different metal strips. The targets behind the dock shield are a different color. The charger is a different power output. The battery comes unplugged. You need a screwdriver to disassemble it before using.

And worst of all for me, the new neato doesn't work on the old chargers!!! Not only will it not charge from the dock, but the old power plug won't fit the back at all! So will neato replace all our old chargers we bought?! What the heck is going on!!!

The hardware versiom of the new one reports as LOWER than the old one. I'm in the twilight zone.

Neato had indeed change the charger and it will not fit/charge the older ones with a different charger.

Charger changes: is this a fix for the old poor contact heating up the wires, melting plastic?

Hi, does anyone know why my Neato XV-21 located in Australia has this new message on the screen:

"A software update is available. Please visit web support."

Since my Neato has never been connected to my computer I wonder what generated the message and is this an indication of the new software referred to in this topic.

As I understand, and if I remember correctly, if there is a known corruption in the firmware, the system defaults to a hard wired default firmware. The very fact that it has done this means it knows that there is a newer version out there, so it lets you know.
Member Fore, previous similar report. The error msg is listed in the USB command language.

I wonder if running a computer in a system rapidly draining batteries with heavy load pulse controlled motors may sometimes create power supply transients in the logic circuits disrupting dynamic memory, if there is some borderline spec part. There can also be some obscure little software error triggered only under odd conditions never fully tested. Fairly common in complex programs, why so many updates to operating systems etc. as the problems get discovered from a volume of usage. Take the infamous buffer overflow security gap in Windows, for example. You can build in automatic protection, but at a cost in programming work and running efficiency; they just assumed the failure condition would never occur. That error, however, was not really excusable; pretty standard to check memory boundaries. Lots come from straining the capacity of the processor, dropping formalities of more voluminous code, and little robots have minimal systems. You pay a lot more for a fancy smartphone, virtually a full PC.
