New Neato FW Spotted 3.0.17235

I for one am content to wait until all the bugs are ironed out of this newest software release and Neato feels comfortable releasing it. Given that we really aren't owed such a thing, and the cost to us for this gift will be $0 I feel like patience is the least thing I can offer.

But that said I do also hope it is soon. In particular I like the new perimeter patterns that it apparently will use under this new firmware. Sounds interesting.

We're definitely not complaining, I was just pointing out that the version of software coming preinstalled is the exact same version as the one on the vr100. I'm hoping what neato said is true and that the online version is slightly revised to be honest and not the same.
My 3.1 vr100 seems to "reverse and climb" a little too much. On hardfloors it then falls down hard onto the floor (wish they used softer castors on the bot) which happens in the past but now on 3.1 happens very often. Pretty sure long term it will scratch the robot and paintwork off the walls. A lot of vr100 users on a forum in Germany have downgraded back to 2.7 which I've done myself too. To correct this behaviour needs a little more tweaking to the way it turns after backing up from a corner.

latest v2 version of the updater still doesnt work on AMDx64 machines!

but the update went ok on my POS intel powered netbook.

Guys, what exact version of the 3.1 firmware is it ? Is it the same one or a slightly updated up which neato hinted on this thread in the past? Not able to check myself until the evening.l

Thanks for that! Seems to be the same version I downgraded from on my vr100. Obviously everyone's home is different so may be better or worse for each individual. Does the new updating software allow downgrading like the vorwerk does just in case?

TBH I'm quite surprised it is the same version. So it looks like the final tweaks must be referring to the new updater rather than the firmware. This is also the first time that both the vorwerk and neato devices are sharing the same software revision.

Ok so FW3.1 .... it's noticably better at cleaning into corners and around corners now which is great.

However, the climbing is back, as others have reported, which is quite disappointing.

EDIT: actually the climbing is pretty minimal, I've seen it do it once only - in FW1.x it was much much worse.

One thing that is a big change (and I like it) is that it now scopes out the perimeter of the entire room first and then starts cleaning sections - seems to work very well.

What version were you on previously? I thought this was how it operated since at least 2.0?

On a side note though, I can't believe it took this long to get the corner cleaning. Everytime I saw it round out the corners my first thought was why doesn't it go all the way in and then just back out.. still, better late than never

I was on 2.6 - im sure it created a section before then cleaned it - now it goes around the entire room and then creates sections within that room to clean.

Climbing (where it backs up on a wall a falls) really depends on your room layout. For me it was just plain annoying especially the hard noise it makes when the back falls onto my hardwood floors. In fact the main reason I downgraded (my vr100) was that I noticed dents on my precious floor caused by this repeated activity!
I've really tried to figure out a way to soften the fall but could not work anything out that would still let the bot cope with transitioning between carpet and hardfloors.

On a German forum there's a thread whereby the owners have wrapped the two hard plastic rollers on the back of the bot with heat shrink tubing. Apparently once done the robot has a much softer ride on hard floors.

So I have and XV-21 with 3.0 pre-installed. I used the updater tool which attempted to update to the 3.1 version but failed on my vaccum and made it non-responsive.

I read in another thread in this forum that some XV-21 machines running 3.0 cannot update to 3.1 which would have been nice to advertise on their site before I attempted it.

Anyway I unplugged the batteries and plugged them back in and the Neato is running fine now on the original 3.0 firmware again.

I don't think I will be attempting a firmware update again any time soon as I really thought I had bricked it.
