Vorwerk Kobold VR200 just announced!

Postby piokrza » June 5th, 2014, 4:15 am

Looks quite similar to Botvac except for added remote control and smartphone app (wireless connection?). Also, new external design.

I just hope they don't do the "we've added a side brush" and now will charge 3 times the amount for the unit as they did with the VR100. I think paying a small premium for a phone app, maybe better battery, etc. is ok, but when the price is doubled or tripled it just makes it seem like a rip off.

Well IMHO they modified even more than in the last version. Look at the sidebrush for example which is located directly in the corner. Could be a improvement. They also added some nice features like iphone remote. And it looks like there is a softer rubber around the device. Probably also the battery is better (Li-Ion).

Of course it's not worth twice or three times the price of the BotVac and probably it will be that overpriced. But it looks like they didn't just put their name on it. They really developed the VR200 partly by their own. I'm curious if they did a good job.

Based on the photos they did the following:

- Added Remote
- Added App
- Better sidebrush
- Better dustbin mechanism
- Added distance sensors to the front bumper
- Softer rubber around the robot
- Added a (smart?) bumper around the laser dome
- Added some LED at the front (battery status?)

The ebay guy also wrote something about a second brush. Maybe similar to iRobots new system?!
AND they asked the German forum to remove all releated posts ;)

Why does the Kobold VR200 get all the latest technology? I feel that Neato got the raw end of the deal.

Do you guys think a robotic mop is important too?

Thanks in advance.

I think beside the form factor and the laser navigation Vorwerk built a completely new robot this time. Maybe they just bought the navigation technology.

I always thought Neato designed the Vorwerks.

Vorwerk claimed they did the vacuum stuff and Neato was responsible for navigation and programming. Not sure if that's the whole truth.
But looking at the VR 200, Vorwerk did not just copy the BotVac, there are much more improvements than the last time. Maybe Neato comes up with a BotVac 2.0 which has the same features - if so Vorwerk didn't do that much ;)

Given that there are an equal number of Vorwerk Directors as there are Neato ones on Neato's Board, it might be assumed that Vorwerk have at least a strong financial interest - perhaps even an equal one - in Neato. Either way, it doesn't appear to me as if Neato are driving this company on their own anymore.

Oh, it has side brush more into its front corner and also, some sensors on its bumper! One "Clean" button and no "Spot" button on the front (as it is for Botvac). Docking station looks similar.

The VR200 is available in an online shop!
https://www.worldshop.eu/product/Vorwer ... /1746192?1
It will be available from week 36 for 749€. Assuming an announcement at the IFA fair, it seems to have an immediate market launch. :D
It will have a 14.4V Li-Ion Battery and a 70W motor (in ecomodus 50W).

Cheers

Good news. It has the same power consumption as new Samsung POWERbot which will be showed on IFA 2014 as well!

And the leakage has been repaired
Vorwerk is very active to reduce any information.

Wow, for $1,000 USD, this thing better give back rubs and do my taxes. In all seriousness, for that much I would expect some extra features such as auto-emptying, mobile apps, etc... Vorwerk used to have essentially one major feature better than the XV series, the side brush. So what exactly justifies 3-4x the price now?

Don't forget the list price for the Botvac 85 is 599 € or 792 $ here in Europe.
So its just 150€ more for Li-Ion battery and an IR remote that no one really needs ;)
