Botvac results v2.3
Correction: motors run with wheels facing up.
Neato Control "Motors" tab: shows check boxes for motors.
The vacuum and brush turn on and off with check boxes.
The wheels do not move with check boxes.
Motor commands do not operate in the "commands" section.
Testmode command was issued. The proper sequence of entries and tabs is not clear.

The side brush check box is greyed out. The side brush motor commands may not exist in the firmware. Unknown.

In hyperterminal one wheel ran with commands:
Testmode On
Setmotor rwheelenable
Setmotor speed 100 rhweeldist 100
Setmotor rwheeldisable
Testmode Off

Where these commands get executed in Neato Control is not clear.

In hyperterminal, it should be:
testmode on
setmotor sidebrushenable
setmotor sidebrushon
I'll double check when I get back from work.

I can confirm BotVac Side Brush Commands in H.P works very well :thanks:

Anyone have info. on whether I can use NeatoControl or a similar program to run diagnostics on my Neato XV-21 P&A on my Mac?

I suspect I have a Lidar problem on my hands, and want to confirm. The unit only does spot cleans, and every run pretty much results in a "My vision was blocked" 4xxx error.

Any help would be appreciated.

I do not think there is a specific MAC OS version of the program. Some Apple computers also run Windows.
There is a MAC driver for the USB connection, for updating firmware somewhere, I have no link, just Windows above in thread.
Some diagnostic work can be done with a terminal emulator using text commands. See the USB programming manual main forum page top.
In some cases the fault is a broken lidar spin motor inexpensive to replace compared to the entire lidar.
Detect by wrong spin speed needs to be 5 per sec 300 rpm. Worn motor brushes.

Given that Neato are no longer providing this service is there another way to get the driver?

I'm trying to set up an old LapTop so that I can be more mobile when monitoring what is happening with these Drunk Neatos.

Windows divers earlier in thread recently still working separate from website internal links
http://www.robotreviews.com/chat/viewtopic.php?p=129822#p129822
apologies never recorded Mac version addresses. Maybe they're universal?

who would think a company would terminate its support website? Even printers have software update sites.
It speaks of limited resources.

[edit] caution some old AMD-NVIDIA laptops have a bug in the system board drivers for the USB interface which does not work with the peculiar protocol used by Neato, emulating ancient RS232 serial ports. Intel machines all worked. The newer AMD cpu's with multiple cores etc. probably all have newer drivers. No one else had this problem so they never fixed the old drivers. Check connection with terminal emulator etc. Neato echos characters back.

[edit] I can email you the drivers above. (when emailing executable files, change the .exe extension for mailing or may not be allowed by online mail services, just as .exe attachments are not allowed here; obvious security issues.
Or zip the files.)

Here's an update on what's going on with my XV-21:

My XV-21 P&A is a refurb unit I bought off of Woot! back in Nov. 2014. Everything was working pretty well for about 6 mo. before it started acting up.

ORIGINAL PROBLEM
XV-21 could not finish a full cleaning cycle without encountering the "My vision was blocked" error 15-30 min. into the cleaning cycle.
- I checked and the LIDAR seemed to be working fine. It was spinning correctly, I saw the laser on, etc.
- I cleaned all the sensors.

Unit was still acting up, so I did a full tear down (around the time when I first posted on the site) to check if the LIDAR was dirty, not spinning optimally, etc. but everything looked fine.

I also purchased a new set of batteries and replaced the old ones.

After putting the unit back together with the new batteries, my original problem was replaced with a slightly different one...

CURRENT PROBLEM
Now my problem now is that during a scheduled clean, instead of doing a full house clean, my XV-21 now does something more like a spot clean. It runs for 5-10 minutes before it finishes and returns back to the charging base. I'd say it makes it back to the charging base about 70% of the time.

The other 30% the unit will throw out the familiar "My vision was blocked" 4xxx error. I click on "Ok" - sometimes I'll have to do it 1-3 times - and then it will either keep vacuuming and return to its base, or the vacuum will stop and it will return to its base.

I fired up an old Windows laptop that I had in storage and got the Neato Control program running. Executing GetLDS resulted in ROTATION_SPEED,5.10 . Correct me if I'm wrong, but I think this is fine; my LIDAR seems to be ok.

Anyone have ideas on what's going on with my XV-21?

What is the actual stored voltage in those new packs? How many times have the packs been charged, and what is the pack advertised capacity?

The batteries that I purchased on Amazon were these: http://amzn.com/B012COXBX4.
- SANCC brand
- Battery Type: Nimh, Voltage: 7.2V, Capacity: 4000mAh

As for number of charges, I set up my XV-21 on a nightly 3.30am cleaning cycle since about Nov. 1 - so we're talking about ~30 charge cycles by now.
- Because the unit runs for only about 5-10 minutes each time, a recharge is done when the battery is not fully depleted.
- I haven't noticed anything wonky with the batteries (that I can notice); the LCD indicator shows a full charge when the unit goes back to dock. The green light indicator becomes solid pretty quickly after the unit docks.

I'll have to check on the actual stored voltage tonight.

Maybe I'll try going back to the original batteries and see what happens. My original assumption was that if the LIDAR seemed to be working fine, then maybe the batteries weren't holding a full charge.

I have to agree with you about battery capacity. A load test would determine if there is a bad cell in one or both packs. Also when fully charged both packs should read 8.2 vdc.

The rotation speed is not the only criterion for the LIDAR good condition . Currently, a new NC version v.2.6 is availble - https://bitbucket.org/heXor/neatocontro ... ontrol.zip. To begin, start the lidar test on the the Scanner tab. Post here a screenshot from the this tab and GetLDS detailed information in the text file.

Will do. You said post a screenshot from which tab again? The Scanner tab?
