My quest for a cheap LCD for Neato XV!
Re: My quest for a cheap LCD for Neato XV!
Comment on Tlt PCB.
My Neato display went blank. I bought the lcd ERC128128-3 at Buydisplay and the pcb on OSH Park.
The repair did not work and never could have worked. See picture below.
The pcb connections are straight and should have been crossed, pin 1 lcd to pin 1 pcb, etc.

In my case (see above), the lcd ERC128128-3 at Buydisplay or ebay and the pcb on OSH Park did work.
See my previous posts with pictures.
I am sure I will do better job on the next one and i will get it to work on the first try.

Re: My quest for a cheap LCD for Neato XV!
I ordered ERC128128FS-3 from ebay and pcb from OSH Park.
I soldered the pcb from osh park, the connector that came with the display all together to the neato display pcb. The problem is I didn't read the whole topic thru
At first I didn't flip the LCD (my connector has contacts on the top so it looked OK).
Of course the LCD was blank.
(the photo if before flipping)
Then I did flip the LCD, and to be able to connect the ribbon to it I folded it and put in the connector.
The problem is the LCD is still blank.
Could I have damaged it when it was connected inverted?

Can you clarify to which pins on "cruz" board the converter is connected?slybas wrote:C6 with 12v using my dime converter who is not up to scratch against 24volts
Re: My quest for a cheap LCD for Neato XV!
Hi,
You have to connect the wire on the C6 capacitor, the pin closed to the ribbon cable, like on the picture from slybas. Was it you question ?

Interests, where on the cruz board it is necessary to connect the red and black wires, in this post we talked about the binky board... slybas did not mention itAlainCAN wrote: 4 - Solder the red and black wire on the main board, the red wire goes to the first pin of U23, the black wire on the capacitor C143, side closed to the plastic like on this picture :
Re: My quest for a cheap LCD for Neato XV!
Ah ok sorry, you can pickup the power directly from the power connector coming from the battery (the bigest connector on the board, with the red and black wire on it. it is the power coming from the battery.
Re: My quest for a cheap LCD for Neato XV!
Thank you, I will try this. There were also such thoughts, but it was embarrassing that the converter would be on all the time ... Is this normal?AlainCAN wrote:Ah ok sorry, you can pickup the power directly from the power connector coming from the battery (the bigest connector on the board, with the red and black wire on it. it is the power coming from the battery.
Re: My quest for a cheap LCD for Neato XV!
Yes It's normal, it will be powered up all the time, the screen will be turned off by the communication bus at the same time as the backlight will be switched off.

Re: My quest for a cheap LCD for Neato XV!
Hello all,
First of all, thank you so much Tris for your thread.
After many search, I havn't found the pinout connection between the breakout PCB and the Neato PCB.
I've bought the screen 128x128 and 2 breakout PCB. I would like to check the inverted screen before anything.
Could you send me pinouts : from where (from the pin 1 to 24 of the Breakout PCB) to where (in the Neato PCB).
Sorry for my bad English.
Best regards

Re: My quest for a cheap LCD for Neato XV!
I ordered a replacement lcd screen and breakaway board, but figured I would try @AlainCAN method while waiting on the parts from Asia.
I would like to report that it fixed my blank white lcd screen problems, initially. I started noticing issues while trying to charge the batteries back to full again. The Neato vx-12 would keep restarting and resetting. I began troubleshooting the problem and decided to remove the c5 capacitor lead from the buck converter. The auxillary voltage source on c5 was no longer needed for the lcd to operate properly. I left it attached to the board, though, just in case I decide to install a wifi card at a later date.
It appears the AlainCAN method "jump-started" my lcd screen. (or maybe a coincidence)
At least if the screen decides to go bad again, I have spare parts on the way, but I am still intrigued.
Has anyone else tried removing the buck converter after getting their screen working?
