Neato XV-11 Replacement Battery Suggestion

Postby gundam212 » July 7th, 2017, 11:20 pm

I am trying to find quality batteries to replace the factory batteries on my XV-11 but have been a little scared at the maraid of bad reviews.

Does anyone have good experiences from a specific seller?

Member humanoid has recommended Tenergy NIMh batteries in several posts. e.g. http://www.robotreviews.com/chat/viewtopic.php?p=136271#p136271

Longer life at higher prices in lithium batteries from LithiumPower Inc. (AnewPow in Europe). Tenergy may also sell these, not sure. Amazon one source, besides direct. Of special interest for heavily used Neato's wearing out batteries faster.

Some batteries are sold with a warranty at higher prices, possibly an indicator of quality.

Beware lithium replacements for NiMh batteries from unkown sources without full specifications, as special electronics must be included for use with Neato's NIMh charger. LithiumPower has made such batteries for various uses in the past, and has a long record of supplying Roomba batteries.

XV 21 showed up in unknown state with no batteries. I'd like to check it out but don't want to spend much on batteries. If someone could point to the posts of battery voltage, thermistor specs and connector pin outs, I would surely be appreciative. Some notes T 10K@25C B=3450 A@0=-3.88 US Sensor 103JG1K. Molex 03-06-2042 at Digi-Key.

OK, never mind.

Old measurements made of XV battery thermistors for lithium interfacing showed the "F" instead of "J" U.S. Sensors part was closest, but I think was not available at Digi-Key.

The polyfuse was not available either but some substitute was found. I think the temperature fuses were listed for Chinese Rice Cookers in lots of 5000. Very high temperature, needing a fire.
If you have a Rev64 newer system board, DIY batteries can be lithium with the software switched to Vorwerk mode over USB, using SetConfig BatteryType 3. Standard protection boards can be used with the cells, no need for old NiMh pack parts. Well, if you want temperature readings instead of a fixed 10K resistor. Charging controlled by voltage only.
NiMh batteries for Neato XV have gotten pretty cheap, compared to older times. Too many NiMh cells to be economical DIY with retail parts, versus only eight or even four lithium cells. It may even be possible to make LiFePo4 now, with just the right cell, given the Botvac experiment -- the older more common cells capacity too low, too many needed.
