Free Neato XV-11

Does anyone want a free XV-11? All you have to pay is shipping. The battery only lasts 15-20 minutes but otherwise it runs just fine. It's starting to sound a little like maybe the belts or motor are getting tired. It is running downstairs now.

I am going to sell the charger for $30 on eBay but I'm happy to give away the actual robot if anyone wants it for parts or to just improve it? Maybe if it's taken apart and fully cleaned out it will be back in tip top shape.

Check your local community for a FREECYCLE group (http://www.freecycle.org). This way, someone in your community will come to your home to pick it up. And nobody will have to pay for shipping. As you can see from my signature, I have freecycled an older robot already.

Disclaimer: I am a moderator for the Freecycle organization in my home town.

Thanks for the suggestion. I could get rid of this in an hour on Craigslist, but I wanted it to go to someone that would really use it, either for parts or who understood robots.

When I offered my Roomba 4210, I got surprisingly few people asking about it. I took that to mean that only people who were genuinely interested in getting it to work (or who already had one and needed parts) showed any interest.

The family across the road have offered me their 'dying' XV-21, which they agree probably only needs a new battery, however they are slow to hand it over because it's apparently 'very dirty and needs a good clean'. I've offered to do that and even hand it back should dirt on the insides be the reason it's hardly leaving the dock, but so far no luck on my offer.

Update: My original XV-11 was bought from AimToFind in Sept 2011 and I was given and 'repaired' (= cleaned out dog stuff) another one of similar age some time later. A few batteries later and both were still running fine until recently when cat/house-sitters decided to ignore my instructions to only use the home ducted vacuum (avoiding any unattended encounter with water bowls, etc.).

Apparently they thought Neatos zapped dust and fluff into a vapour since they ignored the 'Please empty my bin' message and clogged them both up. Years ago I never bothered to check/unclog the drum drive motor on the 'repaired' unit, so it finally jammed up on this last misadventure. I opened it up and pulled out all the (dog?) hair around the shaft, but on reassembly it failed to charge - flashing orange/green LED and no LCD backlight.

I thought I'd broken some ribbon cable or something and a Neato Botvac upgrade was finally about to happen, but after undoing 30 screws, pressing on a few connectors and doing up 30 screws, the damn thing runs perfectly once more
