Neato Botvac D7 - Discovery Mode?

Postby Miles267 » March 22nd, 2018, 8:49 am

Hi, have read somewhere online about a D7 Discovery Mode. IIRC you can put the D7 into DM and it will quietly scan the floor plan, without cleaning (and draining battery), and draw the FloorPlanner map. Currently, I'm only able to initiate the No-Go Lines Cleaning Cycle from within the Neato iOS app.

Also, does the Neato D7 only create the floorplan map on the first trip? or will it return to base for charging and venture back out to append to the floor plan?

Thanks.

FYI - Neato Support informed me there is no such mode.

I don't have a D7, but my guess is that it would continue to build the map during all cleaning segments. Otherwise, it would be impossible to set a no-go line that is beyond the first segment.

catch 22

To use the no-go lines, the floor must first be mapped running without no-go lines. So if the line is needed to prevent the robot getting trapped somewhere, it must first be run where it will be trapped...

Certain software features could help with this paradox, but I would not count on Neato Robotics to supply them. What happens to the mapping, for example, if the robot is stuck and manually released and restarted? And, will it just get trapped again?

I recall seeing one Asian bot spec including a manual mode to drive around and map the floor and marking no-go lines.

With the no-go lines, will it still respond to the old mag strip boundary markers?

I can't think of a single reason why adding no-go lines would disable or negate the need to recognize and react to magnetic boundary strips.

There should be a no-go line plan that simply drives the D7, without activating the vacuum motor (for energy savings) and strictly uses the LiDAR to map the floor plan.
