I have received the otg cable, now i have back working my 2 neatos after 1 month (the problem with the smart batt auth field to 0) and i'm not too confident to brick one of them...
But i've bought an used damaged neato d5 on ebay for trying a repair and playing a bit... turned out that the pmic smoked and probably gone cpu, ram and eventually flash :(

The OS is a QNX variant and is encrypted and stored on a flash chip. The image gets decrypted upon boot by the microcontroller via its secure key storage. It could be possible to use the upload command but you would need to figure out how to get the neato into xmodem mode. This used to be accomplished with a batch script in the days of the VX-21 and neato's offline updater. You should be able to boot into the bootloader that allows for xmodem transfer if the proper conditions are met at startup, i.e. left/right bumper pressed, dustbin open, tires down, etc. when powering on or via the SetSystemMode PowerCycle command. Not sure what the appropriate commands are, but with a bit of tinkering you might stumble across which sensor forces bootloader access. Some combinations might factory reset the neato as well, so proceed at your own risk.

The private key for encryption is the same in all the cpu, or are related to the device id? So, if we clone the flash content to another flash, it works?
Would be interesting to know in case the emmc chip goes to smoke.

The private key would have to be the same across all devices since the encrypted firmware is distributed via zip file and can be upgraded with an otg cable.

Sure, I just sent it to you in a PM for now since the forums won't let me upload it. I saw on one of your posts that you have a few Neatos that you seem to hack around with. Would be great if you could try some of the stuff from the white paper.

Let me know if you find anything
Any chance you could also send this across to me? Trying to bring a D5 back to life and remove dud battery flag (similar to issues seen in this thread http://www.robotreviews.com/chat/viewto ... 0&start=20) - hoping that re-flashing firmware will clear it. Thanks!

My D3 connected is running 4.5.3-189. It does not have any more update to the 4.6.0 or 4.6.1
I can download the 4.6.0 and 4.6.1 from the following site.
https://support.vorwerk.com/hc/en-us/ar ... hat-s-new-

I have D5 Connected with the blinking info blue light and battery green light forever bug.
This D5 connected is half bricked.
Why I said it is half bricked?
If this D5 is completed bricked/dead, it will not blinking the blue/green light forever. At least something is running inside. I think the bootloader is working. If I am correct, the bootloader may be able to load new Vorwerk firmware to this D5 using USB cable.
Anyone has updated firmware on a flashing blue/green light d Connected robot using USB cable?

If D Connected series is updated to the 4.5.3-189 ATM, I will try to flash this D5 to 4.5.3-189. But I cannot find the 4.5.3 file to try.

I like to know if anyone is running the Vorwerk 4.6.0 or 4.6.1 on Neato D Connected robot. Then, I will try the newer version.

Hi Techguy,

In my attempts to revive my ailing D5, I have tried flashing the 4.6.0 and 4.6.1 firmwares, as well as 4.5.1 (which wasn't a Neato release, only Vorwerk). None of these allow the robot to be registered on Neato's servers, so they can't get online properly, and none of them allow the robot to clean (the fan spins up, the side brush start going, then it errors out). Previously it was running 4.5.3.
I've been trying to find any Neato firmware out there - 4.4.1, 4.5.0, 4.5.3 - I've looked back to 3.1 but am still struggling to find anything, including using wayback machine to look at archived pages. Most older download links area dead.
Hence why I was asking Scapegoat here for a copy of the firmware, in the hope that it would allow my D5 to be registered on Neato's servers again... Living in hope!

@Scapegoat
Please send my a copy of the Neato_4.4.0_72.tgz.
I like to try whether my flashing blue/green light D5 Connected will take it or not.
Thanks

I can confirm that the vr300 update (RobotData folder on usb key) works on d5. I've flashed an already up to date D5 unit that has a problem not cleaning all the house, and has a good lidar (same range of a working D5). The problem is that now during the registering procedure it fails registering on neato servers...

Ok, mine fixed with neato support doing the procedure:
remove bin
shut down pressing 10 sec the power button
press left + front left bumper
power on with fast power button press
leave the bumper pressed for 10 sec, then release.
When the bot power on, put the bin on it, and redo the wifi connection.

Once that i've connected it (correctly, this time), the neato asked me to do an OTA update. I hope that this OTA can also fix the bots with battery auth flag problem

Hello sorry to revive an old thread... I have a neato D7 with firmware 4.1.1 and I'm trying to update the firmware to 4.5.3-189, I can't find that file anywhere and am wondering if anybody has it and if I could get a copy of it. I'm also wondering how i'd go about flashing it. the vacuum won't update through the app. Thanks in advance for any help! Also has anybody more recently tried those vr300 firmwares on the D series?

Cross-linking to http://www.robotreviews.com/chat/viewto ... 20&t=23185 where 4.5.3-189 is posted. The crt file appears portable between VR300 and Neato packages, so my link there should work fine as an OTG update without any modifications. It still like for someone to confirm that it works for them if possible.

I'm also seeking the old Neato_4.4.0_72.tgz file (or any other old 3.2+ firmwares) to see if I can fix my smartbatt authorization status 0 problem. From what I've read, OTA updates have been broken for a year, and OTG are not officially supported.

If I remember I will download these and upload them to Archive.org just in case.
