Hacking Mint 4200 to use Reservoir Cleaning Pad

Postby nicerobot » July 31st, 2013, 2:44 pm

Sorry if this has already been answered but I was wondering if anybody's attempted to modify the Mint Plus reservoir cleaning pad (part #5230) to work on a regular Mint 4200. I realize the pad is not designed for the 4200 but it looks so similar in shape to the 4200's regular cleaning pad attachment that I thought with some modification it might work.

The design of the 5200 Reservoir accessory sits a little higher than the stock cleaning pad accessory. In order to get the proper floor clearance for the Reservoir accessory additional clearance must be cut into the accessory mount of the 4200.

i just got a 4200-a, and noticed the bottom doeshave the indentation as shown in the photo above. i'm assuming that any mint reservoir pad should work.

does any know for sure?

I have a 4200 with no indents in the mount. Sure wish there was another way without routing out that indent on the Mint. Any ideas?

Well, I guess that was a silly question. I just got a 4200 for $20 and really wanted to use a Reservoir Cleaning Pad on it for the wood floors. It does look like with the picture above, it will sit on the Mint 4200 but just not like it would on a 5200.

You could use Swiffer wet pads on your 4200. Not as good as a 5200 well attachment but its a partial solution.

Has anyone tried this modification, cutting the 4200 to allow for the reservoir pad to fit? I'm considering trying it but would love any advice. Thanks.

I would bet you could dremel away the part on the mount to do this, problem so far is buying a reservoir that does not cost $50 plus! I can almost get a broken Braava for that much.

May be I manage to do the hack ;), but first I want to be sure that my Mint 4200 is working 100% with reservoir cleaning pad.
I'll post more information soon.

I successfully performed this mod using a dremel tool. The plastic more melts than cuts, but the end result is the material is removed. It isn't pretty, but it works. If you don't get enough material removed and the pad doesn't fully seat, the robot will not navigate properly.. Make sure it seats just like the other holder does and it should work. Be aware the part you are working with is hollow.
