Rent a Roomba Cable

Postby rtadams89 on July 29th, 2010, 2:28 am

Hello all,

Thanks in part to the information I've found here, I have now tweaked/hacked my Roomba to my liking. I know some people would like to do simple mods (maybe setting their 530 to run on a schedule) that require the SCI cable, but don't seem worth the $20+ to buy one. Since I have a iRobot USB cable and don't need it everyday, I was wondering how people would feel about renting said cable. I haven't thought out all the details, but basically something like $0.50 a day + a deposit, and when you return the cable the deposit is refunded. I'm not making an offer yet, just trying to gauge interest. So, what do ya'll think?

I'd reather spend the $20 and have my own cable. A better cable to rent, and people have done this in the past, is the Scheduler Update cable. It is rare and people only need it for a short time.

Generally when a cable has been needed, it has been loaned out also.

In long term, it will be expensive to rent the SCI cable to set up schedule on 500 series Roomba. The schedule will be lost if the Roomba is reset or battery removed. What about your need changes which requires schedule change? Beside, it is a good debugging tool for the Roomba charging subsystem testing.

If you have electronics background, the cable can be built for a few dollars.
USB 2.0 to TTL Module CP2102 Serial Converter UART 6PIN - $5.76
7 Pin DIN Plug Male $0.99
