Which Should I mod 4105 or 4210

Postby jer361 » September 3rd, 2012, 10:08 pm

I just bought a lot of three used roomba's off of ebay a 4105, a 4210 discovery and a scoomba. I would like to mod either the 4105 or the 4210. I was wondering if there where any advantages to hacking one over the other. I also picked up an Omni bot to cut up and mount on top of the roomba to make a retro cleaning robot. This is making me lean towards the 4105 because it is flat and looks like it would be easier to mount the Omni. Any advice would be appreciated.

Both Roombas will have the same insides so pick the one that you like the exterior appearance of for you hacking efforts.

Both of these bots are old enough that they may not have the control interface firmware that will let you control it via bluetooth or a serial port. If that matters and one has the interface and the other doesn't then your choice is clear. If neither have it there are ways to get the firmware updated.

Thanks for the replay's both have the ps2 port and I plan to control it with an EZB but would still like it to work on it's own as a vacume. I would like to relocate the buttons from the top of the roomba to the front of the omni where the cassette deck is now. Can't wait to start cutting.

Yes, all have the PS2 style port, not all have the firmware to use the PS2 style port to control the robot.
