Roomba, rootooth nothing happens..

Postby jmep » October 31st, 2012, 6:26 am

Hello, I am trying to use a rootooth to control my roomba 555

But nothing happens when I send commands to it.

I changed baund rate to 115200 because it seemed to be right for this model.

You appear do be able to talk to the bluetooth, the next step is to talk to the robot. Put the robot on the dock (or plug the power supply into it). You should see a stream of chrging information.

Also, I have found my 400 series need to be turned on before the respond to SCI commands.

Power supply is plugged in, but still nothing happens when i try to send a command.

Is the yellow text the charging information stream?

With the power supply plugged in, the SCI will output in ASCII text the charging information once per second. The Roomba will not respond to any input commands during that time except the reset command "7".

It does not show the ASCII text charging information, it therefore means that roomba not have contact with the rootooth?

If the charging info is not seen then yes your connection is not established.

Did you associate the Rootooth with the bluetooth on your PC ?

Yes I did.
Roomba doesn't seem to respond to any command, but the connection from my pc to rootooth works.

After using the $$$ characters to get the CMD and the query for the way the firefly is configured are you then sending the 3 dashes (---) to exit the CMD mode ?

Yes, I used those commands to check if the rootooth is connected to My pc. Then i tried to send "128 131 135" as numbers to tell roomba to start cleaning, but nothing happens, roomba doesn't respond with anything.

During the discovery and password handshake the Bluetooth program should have assigned two comm ports. Always use the lower number comm port as the connection to the Rootooth.

Try another connection using the lower number and then plug in the power supply and look for the charging data reports that should display every second.

1. I removed the bluetooth device from my pc and added it again.
2. Two serial ports was assigned com3 and com6.
3. Rootooth doesn't respond when I connect to com6 but on com3 it does.
4. When I plug in the power supply I got this code displayed only once
power stream.png
power stream.png (2.06 KiB) Viewed 2960 times
no other data is displayed

With or without the power supply connected, roomba doesn't move or respond when I try to send any commands to it.

Any ideas what can cause this?

Your setup is not communicating through the SCI port. With the power supply connected to the Roomba and the proper setup with your Bluetooth/Rootooth you should see something similar to this output:

bat: min 1 sec 59 mV 17367 mA 1165 deg-C 16

Power supply is connected and I have changed the Rootooth baud rates to : 9600, 19200, 38400, 57600, 115200, 232400bps one by one.

Still not receiving any charging information from roomba. Can't find out why roomba doesn't connect trought Rootooth. :?

The default baud rate on the 5XX model Roombas is 115,200. The SCI port may possibly be locked-up, try removing the battery and then install it again then try and monitor for charging data.

Getting back to basics to test your connection is difficult when using a Rootooth since it is powered by the SCI pins. If you have an alternate way to power the Rootooth and can short the T & R connections then what is sent from your terminal should loop back and be displayed on your terminal.

I don't have a alternate way to power the Rootooth. If I short the TX and RX connections on the rootooth PCB and then connect the SCI pins to Roomba. Will the result be the same?
