How to distinguish lighthouse mode when hacking

Postby Norman_2012 » November 1st, 2012, 1:00 pm

Hi,

I am Hacking my Roomba 611 , and there is a problem with the virtual wall lighthouse.
The lighthouse is assigned an ID by roomba and I can read its Infrared Character .
but the characters have no difference no matter in Virtual Wall mode or Light House mode,
and the value requested by the Virtual Wall Command ( Packet ID = 13 ) is 0 most of the time,
How can I distinguish this two mode?

Thank's

I think the IR signal is the same in both modes. When your Roomba 611 wants to go to next area, it sends a RF command to the lighthouse to turn off the IR beam.

Thank you!

But before my Roomba decides to go to next area , it has to know whether the IR beam is from a light house or a virtual wall.

I got the same character as you by using the Infrared Character Omni/Left/Right Command. But the character still keep the same when the VWLH changed mode . so my roomba can't distinguish them. Do I fully understand your meaning in the thread ?

Sorry, but my memory is quite volatile, which allows me to become an expert for only about one week! :-) That thread is three years old, and I have done no further 'research' on the matter. I can't see that I was promoting any particular "meaning in the thread", other than to help Vince with his problem. Further, I only use my VWLH in VW mode. To do otherwise in my cluttered environment would be catastrophic to my 535.

Sorry #2, but I can't spare any time, even though interested, to brush up on these VWLH operations or do any experiments.

I don't think the roomba needs to know if the beam is from LH mode or VW mode. If it can't turn off the beam it will assume there is a VW and will not cross the beam.

Yes, that is another scheme which gives the control right to the VWLH . But why not to give this information to roomba, It's not so difficult to realize in face.
