we'll see what actually shows up. Is the sw to dump it in the long scratchpad thread?

I do believe that Greg may have left a download link in that long thread. Check it and see. You can also modify a cable and power up the OSMO using a 9 volt battery, plug in a RS232 connection and see what the version date is. That last request may be easier to do than dumping the OSMO into an .S record.

I got another email from them last night re-iterating that a "purple code stick" was sent to me. It should be here sometime next week.

Thanks for that info, we now know that there is possibly a third OSMO with a "Codestick Lite" banner contained within the startup program when the OSMO gets power and sends ID info to the Roomba.

sure enough, a purple osmo module arrived today. peering through the back I see the date 050823 on the sticker.

Just for fun, I plugged it into my disco to see if it would update, which it didn't.

I'll have to bring it into work tomorrow to get the serial data out of it.

Your OSMO Purple contains the same date as my OSMO blue, except yours has the code in a 256 kb image.

that is interesting because before I flashed my disco with the smoke osmo, it had the same firmware date but the roi wasn't enabled.

Well it sounds like the ROI is working now so it is time to play. Over on the IRobot Create forum is a poster called Joe. He has a web page you can go to and download a control program he wrote for the create. It kinda works for the Roomba, try it out.

actually I'm more interested in getting player to work, but I'm having a heck of a time getting it to do anything. I must be missing something on my linux box.

I have gotten it to work with ms robotic studio, though. However it won't run on the asus router I am planning on strapping to the top of my disco.

.

Another old post, but for those of us non hackers, would someone please explain to me what this purple osmo does for a Roomba when plugged into it? I am not a hacker, I just have a number of old robots that don't work and am wondering what if anything, this old purple osmo might do for any of them if I got one?

I can't help you directly, but suggest that you do an Advanced-search for purple, to get about 70 results; and then search those results for osmo.

In the reduced number of hits you will quickly find a thread topic "Purple OSMO". Perhaps you will find what you ask in the associated posts.

Thanks very much. I thought that is what I did to find the thread I responded to. I may have done it wrong, but I did find many, mostly referring to the hacking possibilities. I am not sure how to search within a search though, and did my seach for "purple osmo". I will try again.

I was searching mostly to understand what upgrades that might relate to wheel tachs and circle dance problems, the purple osmo might correct. I know my thread was from 2007, so I am thinking this osmo isn't likely to work with any robots newer than that, but I have a few old Discos that have wheel tach and circle dance problems still hanging around.
