Calling for Xiaomi Mi Robot Vacuum owners for opinions?

Postby technocleaner » May 26th, 2017, 4:39 am

Now that some of you have had the vacuum for a few months, any new or changed opinions of it? I guess hoping to get more than the usual info from those who have used it regularly for now. Mainly the little niggles or nuggets of gold info.

TIA

It is popular in Germany on Roboter-Forum where Xiaomi has a presence in Europe. They are doing a lot of hacking of the software for the smartphone, repairs and what not. Try the Google translator in Chrome or Microsoft Edge. Shipping from China also cheaper there.
Also other Xiaomi threads this forum and section here.

Ive been using one for a week now and so far so good. No problems as of now. Love how smart the navigation algorithm is. For what it costs its a steal, no joke!!

All fine here...

Only issue I've hit is with breakfast bar stools. If they're aligned in the "wrong way" it means the unit can get lost/beached. I now put them out of the kitched into the extension on vacuum days, so the little robot doesn't encounter them.

I've also noticed in our lounge with a carpet we seem to get a fairly obvious "line" around some units which I assume is from the robot's wheel. After a few repeat robot vacuums this line can become quite defined I guess because there's no foot fall etc to disturb it. However, a vacuum with a "real vacuum" cleaner makes this disappear.

These are selling like hot cakes in Australia. General view is why spend > $1000AU on a roomba when you can get a Xiaomi for $390AU.

I loved my xiaomi until the battery died. I had about 260 hours of use on the battery when it died. I have a new battery on order but it takes over a month to have one shipped from China to the US.

I bought a Neato Botvac Connected and am probably going to either sell the Xiaomi or use it to vacuum the screened in back porch. That's assuming the battery replacement fixes it.

The Xiaomi seemed to be a little more intelligent with its navigation compared to the neato but they have a very similar cleaning pattern.

The Neato seems to suck up more dirt but it gets stuck more often. The Neato is much more prone to sucking up the edges of blankets or cords than the Xiaomi... probably because of the wider intake and that the intake is close to the front instead of being in the middle like the Xiaomi.

I am very satisfied with my Xiaomi Mi. Yeah, it has an error 5 (blocked brush) on medium carpet every 30 minutes or so. A Samsung tablet makes it easy to continue.

One quirk, is it starts cleaning every day on its own at 19.00.40 and 19.00.50 hours pacific time (without my request).
Scheduled running is disabled.
Programming the DND (Do Not Disturb) to eliminate that time period has no effect.
Powering down the router during those time periods does stop it.
Opening the connection between modem and router at 19.00.32 for 25 seconds simply delays the auto-start-ups (evidently resends packets).

The only convenient solutions are to "turn off" the vacuum during that period, or to"cage" it (cleans a couple square feet and returns to dock).

We have gen1 and gen2 xioami. Also my sister and our neighbours bought one. The algorithm is the best i've seen since roomba gen1 some 15 years ago. Also way better than neato which broke after 20 months. The only question remains...how long will it last. All four xioami's still work fine after a few months use, some being used on a daily basis. Every time I am amazed at how it doesnt miss a spot when cleaning our floor with 5 rooms
The gen 1 performs nearly as good as gen 2. Gen2 is a little quieter and has the mop function. The mop function does work but only for a small room like kitchen or bathroom. I still prefer to mop by hand becaue it's much faster.
