The most important feature would be to start and stop the cleaning - If I come home and the machine is working, I'd like it to just return home to its charger. The home automation knows when someone is home, and therefore should instruct the vacuum cleaner to go away, and start it on schedule, only if no one is home.

If extra information such as "the dustbin needs emptying", "I'm stuck" where available, that would be a bonus.

If the BT protocol is a simple one or documented/open, (or if it is indeed wifi - even better), a plugin to the different home automation software could easily be created by its user base.

With Alexa integration, and Amazon "skill" software open source in some ways, DIY supported, it might be possible for hackers to add this function to Alexa software for robots (returning to base when resident is home).
