Unable to edit my email address in account settings
I've been trying for some time to replace an outdated email address in my personal account profile, and each time I hit Save, I find myself thrown back to the login screen with no other feedback. When I log back in, I find my old email address still in the system. As a result, I get no topic notifications, and if anyone were trying to contact me by email, they'd be unable to.
Is there some secret to how to do this, or is something broken? I PM'd an admin, but got no reply.
BTW, I've tried it two ways -- putting in my password in the password fields on the Edit screen and not putting it in. (It's unclear whether those fields are intended only for changing a password, or are a security measure before accepting other changes.)
I would appreciate help with this!
Thanks.

Re: Unable to edit my email address in account settings
Quick question.. Are you entering your current password (At the bottom one only)? Enter your current password where it says "Current Password".. I think you already did this, but just want to be clear. Don't mess with anything else (Besides changing ur email address).
I take it you are entering your new email address and confirming it right below?

You must confirm your current password if you wish to change it, alter your e-mail address or username.

Re: Unable to edit my email address in account settings
I was entering my password in both fields. I just tried again, entering my password only in the "confirm password" field (the second one). Then I clicked Save, down at the bottom. This time I got an actual error msg:
"The e-mail address [my email] is not valid in phpBB."
What's that all about? I entered a valid email address.
So I tried again, using an alternate email address. This time I was once more bounced out and returned to the login page, nothing changed. Tried the first email again. Same result: bounced out, no change.
I'm stumped.

I have forwarded this to Craig to investigate. I'm sure you are doing it correctly. There is some code that needs to be tweaked.
Once Craig has time, he will get right on this..

Re: Unable to edit my email address in account settings
OK,
This is how you change your email address. Navigate to Edit Account settings. Change your email address, and confirm it in the next line.
THEN, when you select the Current Password dialog box, type in your current password. DON'T press submit button yet!
You will see something in the New Password dialog box. Erase everything in that dialog box. Then, you can press the Submit button.
In a little while you should receive an email posted to your new email address. Click on the link to re-activate your account.
You should be done. That's a workaround for now. Craig will be researching as to why we have to go through the extra step to change our password/email address.

Re: Unable to edit my email address in account settings
Thanks, but what you describe does not match what I see on the edit page. There's just one line for the email--no second line for confirmation. The password dialog consists of "Password" and "Confirm Password" and nothing appears in those fields, nor is there any box that says "New Password."
I suppose I should try it in a different browser and see if that makes a difference.

No, same result in IE that I got in Firefox. Here's the screen I see (or part of it):

Well,I don't know what happened to my attachment. I tried to paste in a screen clip, but I guess it didn't take.
Anyway, I see a very different screen from the one you showed. I'm using Firefox 12, but I also tried in IE and got the same results.

I am using FF 12 here also. I dunno what to say. It should look like mine.. When you are on that page, have you tried to refresh the page? (Hold down the Control button while you press the F5 button, and then release them both at the same time)

Re: Unable to edit my email address in account settings
I don't know how to paste in a screenshot, so let's try a different approach. I don't have the same tabs at the top, or any tabs along the left side of the page. This is strange. Here's the URL I'm on:
http://www.robotreviews.com/users/starrigger (where starrigger is my username)
Does that jibe with the page you're on? I wonder if I've stumbled somehow onto an older page.

Oooo.. You are on the other login page.. OK..
Click on this link
It should look like the pic I attached above (Maybe a bit different). The page you are on is for the rest of the website (Reviews/News/Blogs/etc). The forums are separate from the rest of the website..

Re: Unable to edit my email address in account settings
Okay, that link took me to the page you showed, and I was able to make a change. I had to go to a secondary email address, though, because the system said my primary address was already in use. So I must have two accounts somehow? (I did have a problem for a while, because I'd been away and my old account was inactivated. Augh. I don't actually want two accounts. Not sure how to check that out, though.)
The other question is, how can I routinely get to that profile page from the forum? I got to the other one by clicking on my Account button when I was in the forum, and there was nothing to suggest that I was anywhere except in my forum account page. Very confusing.
Anyway, thanks for getting me this far!

Re: Unable to edit my email address in account settings
On the top of any page, you should see where it says "User Control Panel". Click on that link.
Click on the pictures for a larger view. Then, click on the "Profile" tab.
Lastly, click on "Edit Account Settings".
Hope this helps.
Regarding your other email address you want to use. PM Craig your email address you want to use (Click on the link. That will take you to the screen to PM him automatically.) He might be able to delete that account and free up the email address you want to use.

Ah! I was looking at all the large tabs on the top of the page, including Account -- and never even saw the leetle ones a little further down. Thanks!
Re: Unable to edit my email address in account settings
I have a problem with editing my profile data:
what's up? I am the more surprised, because I do not use any mail program that could send out spam

Interesting.. It's allowing you on the website, but you can't edit your profile... :/ I have PM'ed Craig to have a look to get it fixed for you.
The pain the regular members have to go through to keep the site spam-free. IMHO, I would rather deal with this, than dealing with a boat-load of spammers every day.
