Scooba 450 Not laying down water

Postby alvin » December 3rd, 2014, 4:52 pm

Hi,

My Scooba 450 seems to put out water initially and after 5 minutes or so, decides to stop putting down fresh water and finishes with a half-full clean water tank.

Any ideas?

Is the check tank light turned on when your Scooba stop?

The dirty tank full sensor may be dirty and generates false tank full signal.
Clean the dirty tank with hot hot water. Report result.

Have you checked the three contacts, that connect the tank pins ?

Sometimes, they become crashed, when the tank is inserted not straight aligned.

Hi alvin, although you may have a totally different issue with your 450, iRobot has released a firmware upgrade for your 450 Scooba. Read about it here: viewtopic.php?f=1&t=18191

Hi,

I have tested 2 Scooba 450's both leave about 250ml clean water in the tank on 40 minute run. I seem to remember my original used to use the complete tank, but I did not measure it until I ran the second I did do a flow test and the both flow about 100ml of water in 3 minutes.

Does anyone know if the room size has a bearing on water used?

Thanks

Hi AMS63,

same story here, 2 brand new scooba 450, second as replacement from irobot corporation directly,
and still 200/300ml clean water in tank after long cycle, no matter how small or big the room is,
and always fewer dirty water on tank after long cycle compared as old original software firmare in scooba 450, i suppose 1.2.3, they both nowa t 1.2.6.

My first scooba 450 was at 1.2.3, first long cycle used all clean water and filled by half the dirty tank,
then stopped at all using clean water at the second run and onward,
the fw upgd from gordon/vic7767 helped, but only half way.

You can read the story here, use google translator for the details if you really like to know them:

http://www.irobot.it/forum/topic/4438-s ... isfazione/

Asked directly iRobot Corp an explanation after second scooba replacement
and below this message is their reply, buit i'm still
waiting their answer for 2 very simple questions,
for which we all can be quite confident that their answer will be
somenthing like in politichese and legalese language,
that is, no real answer at all, we can 100% sure about this:

. the technical details of the issues that the new software version 1.2.6 tackel ?
. the new behaviours of the Scooba 450 that differ from previous original software firmware version ?

here below irobot corp answer about clean water usage and the possibility to go back at old fw 1.2.3

======================
The reason why
we do not provide the exact information of the amount of water required for the large room cleaning cycle
is that the usage of water depends on the size of the floor of the specific home.

The Scooba will put down as much water as it would require for the actual cleaning
without taking into account exactly how large the room is
or if there is any water left in the tank.

For the large room cycle the Scooba will use a maximum of 700ml of water which is the entire tank.

For the small room cycle the Scooba is programmed to use a maximum of 350ml of water
which is half the tank
so that the other half of the tank is left for another run.

Unfortunately we do not have information whether a downgrade of the Scooba software is possible
and we would not recommend it as the newer version tackles issues that the Scooba may otherwise experience .

We are now all waiting comments here from maybe vic7767 mastercb(I'm sorry gordon) or even third_deg and other.

I'm sure they'll be really much appreciated by all us Scooba 450 owners.

Thanks

Sorry droid, but I have no information to share about Scooba-450. Anything I may know has come from third_deg's & vic7767's posts!

They are your best bet. I expect that you have already scrutinized search results from those two, and have not found the specific information you need (which I perceive to be something like: 450 puts clean-solution the floor, but not as much as expected).

If your, or other Scooba-450 owners have not read all applicable 450 posts (or if I wished to review them too), here is how I would go about revealing them:

At upper right of just about any robot reviews page you will see the phrase "Advanced search". Click on that link.

A window will open that permits you to search for "keywords" and/or search for "author".

To expose most of member "third_deg's" posts that are related to the 450-Scooba, enter 450 in the keyword cell and third_deg in the author cell; then, limit the forums to search by ensuring that "iRobot Roomba and Scooba Chat" is highlighted in the large list box.

Leave default entries in the next radio buttons, and a few cells, as they are.
Finally, click the "Search" button at page bottom.

A window of results will replace the Search window. I get 68 results, occupying four pages, for third_deg.
It is now up to you to scan the results, find one of interest and click where the link "Jump to post>" is highlighted.

When done reading that post/thread, return to the results by use of your PC's Backspace key.

Repeating the search process for vic7767's mentions of "450", I get 106 results.

Good luck!

My replacement Scooba 450 has already the latest software 1.2.6,
connected to usb port with putty and seen it, but
at the end of the long cycle it still
leaves more than 200ml of clean water in the tank
and collects less than 200ml of dirty water .

Ran one Scooba 450 set for a large room. Filled clean tank with 2 and 1/2 cups water and the fill cup with scooba cleaner. The 450 is on firmware release 1.2.6 and the cleaning session lasted 43 minutes. There was 1/2 cup of liquid left in the clean tank and 1/3 cup of liquid in the dirty tank. Ran out of time for running the second 450 tonight but will post results very soon.

Hi Vic, good news, my 450 just return from iRobot Support and it's working fine now, that is, at the end of big room cycle the clean water blue tap tank compartmnent is almost empty now,
I filled it at the start with 750ml of clean water.
Thanks.

iRobot support
upgraded in warranty the sw from 1.2.6 to 1.2.8
did a general cleaning of the robot
and swapped the tank with a screw on the filter
with a brand new tank with the yellow filter.

Here following the logs from putty with the indication of the new sw 1.2.8

Hi droid, that is good news. I have been getting about the same results with two 450s on 1.2.8. Only difference between your Scooba and these two is you have the improved tank with the EZ clean filter.

I had this same problem, and I found a solution.

The water pump has a small silicone hose inside that will glue itself together on either side.
(Terrible pump design imo)

You need to remove the water tank and cleaning module and find a small philips screwdriver.
You should get some silicone oil spray to fill the pump tube with later.

Under the cleaning module, there are two screws, remove these to get the spill cover off.

On the top right, there's a tube going from left of middle to the right wheel.
This is the drying fan tube, and it has two screws that need to be removed.
Pull the air tube off, and then find the three screws holding the pump in place.

Remove the pump, it pulls straight out.
There's two screws, one silver and one black holding a plastic U-shaped tube in place, remove these, and unplug the pumping hose.

You can now carefully pull the silicone tube out, roll it between your fingers to remove the part where it glued itself together, spray some silicone oil inside so it won't happen again.

You can now twist the pump head so that the silicone hose falls in position, reseat the U-shaped tubing, and put everything together again.

You should now have soaking wet floors when it does stage 1.

Hope my guide made sense. =)

Shinobi,

I just spent the ENTIRE day trying the various fixes suggested on this site for Scooba not laying down water and yours was the one that fixed it. THANK YOU! FYI the reference point should be the wheel marked Left, not the Right. Thanks again!

I just looked at the water pump that has been discussed in the last couple of posts in this thread and did not discover the issue that was mentioned. Here is a picture of the tube used in the pump function.
